A great reference for any machine shop
A very useful reference for the machine shop. A great companion to Machinerys Handbook. The most used charts, tables and information in an easy to use format. Grease & oil resistant paper and a spiral binding that lays flat on the bench. Comes with stick-on tabs to identify the important sections the user can apply yourself, or leave off if you prefer the book without them.

Packed with useful info
I've had books like this before, most of them were filled with disappointing pages of charts that were replaced by common calculators years ago. I've been machining over forty years and this book has really useful info, things like woodruff key specs that are very handy and the carbide insert section is excellent. Sure you can find this info on line but this book saves the time and going to manufacturers websites as it lists different manufacturers designations for you. I didn't like that the pages were stuck together at the seam and I had to carefully go through each page to keep them from ripping or the fact that you have to place the page tabs yourself, although it gives you the option of leaving them off. I do like the ruggedness of the pages and the quality feel of the paper. All and all a great condensed book for the shop. Recommended.

Wish I had purchased this sooner
If your on the fence about this item don't be. What a great reference book for any machine enthusiast. I got the BIG print version so these old eyes can see easy. I truly recommend this series of book. Great value for the money. As Advertised you can open it and just lay it flat, the pages are all slick and wipe off without smudging the ink. Any where in the book that gives metric it is red. The only downside is the index labels you need to figure out how to apply them and make sure you don't catch 2 or more pages. Which is easier to do than you would think. To sum it up You never use the whole book but i guarantee you will use it more often once you have it.

Engineers Black Book is a MUST for every shop, pro or amatuer!
Engineers Black Book, 3rd Edition (Inch), compiled by Pat Rapp, copyright 2018 I bought this book to help me navigate the often-murky waters of inserts and their tooling. I was not disappointed. The book contains complete coverage of both inch and metric inserts and insert holders, including thorough coverage of boring bar inserts and tool holders. The code designations are explained and illustrated in an easy-to-understand, visual manner. The price of the book was worth it for this documentation alone. Engineers Black Book contains far more than insert and insert holder descriptions. There are complete sections on everything from drill sizes with their closest metric counterparts (how often do you convert from inch to metric or vice versa in your head and get it wrong?), to spanner selection in both inch and metric, to expected surface finishes, heat treatment terms and explanations, and hardness comparisons. Along the way, there is extensive coverage of common workshop metals and comparisons (which was very helpful to me), grinding wheel composition, markings, shapes, and rotary burrs. The section on cutting tool materials and applications is extremely informative. This section covers everything from high-speed steel to polycrystalline diamond along with their classifications, and machinability. I thought I would only use the book for insert help. I quickly found that there is a lot more information in Engineers Black Book that I need to help in my amateur machining efforts on lathe, mill, bandsaw, sharpening HSS tool bits, reamers, and surface cutting speeds, only to name a few!

Good concise resource.
This is a good concise guide, but not quite as comprehensive as I had hoped. Obviously they are not trying to compete with a “Machinist Handbook,” but most of this info is readily available on the internet. Still, it’s nice to have it in a very readable, concise resource. I could more enthusiastically endorse it if it was just a little cheaper.

lots of information
I am a woodworker who just got into metalworking and need all the information I can find. This book was recommended by a You Tube channel and is what I was looking for. I could probably find all the information on-line but having it close at hand is much easier. I have a lot of engineering books in my wish list that are a lot more expensive, but this was a good place to start. I started out with a lathe and a milling machine but will need a lot more reference material as I go along. I prefer books that are considered industry standards or used in classes for machinists. I would recommend this book.

A must have book for the occasional machinist. All of my pages are right side up
I was a little worried about purchasing this book after reading the reviews about missing or upside down pages. Mine is in one piece and features the durable plastic like pages advertised. It comes with a sticker book of tabs. So the tabs shown in the picture are on you to mark. This book is worth the money for the content alone. If you are familiar with machinery's handbook, and are looking for something similar, and maybe more affordable, this is it.

Great engineer gift according to an engineering student
Apparently this book is a handy reference guide of all the formulas and math stuff they use condensed into one manual. I was told it was ‘really cool’ which is damn near exuberance when dealing with an engineering kid.
