Children Around the World

A colorful and informative book for youngsters that points out the many similarities shared by children living around the world. Children may look differently and speak in one or more foreign languages but children everywhere, rich or poor, are loved by their families. In short and simple sentences each of the book's featured children relates something about their country, their family and home, their religion, school, food and customs ... and their favorite thing be it a favorite pet or sport. It's sort of the information they might share with a pen pal.You can easily come up with ways to expand upon the material found in the book ....As you and your child read the book it might be fun if the whole family were to take part, perhaps setting aside one night a week or a couple of times s month when you or your spouse cooks a special ethnic dish and family members (or at least the children) each wear a piece of clothing similar to that of the child/family currently being studied. Perhaps everyone could learn a couple of phrases such as 'Good Morning, Good Night, How Are You, and Thank You'. And maybe an older sibling could do some additional research on the internet ... and find an interesting fact to share, for example: "And did you know little Sis that every little girl in that country is given a blue toy on her sixth birthday?" And then your older son or daughter could hand your little girl a blue toy pig even though it isn't her birthday.

Wonderful for reading and learning about culture. I teach Montessori and find this book a big bonus. It is well written, in simple English, from a child's perspective and just right for Kindergarten kids. Using appealing illustrations it introduces 12 countries from 6 continents (antarctica excluded) ; Philippines, Tanzania, China, Australia, Canada, Morocco, the Unites States, India, Mexico, Japan, Greece and Bolivia.

I am a kindergarten teacher and used this book to teach my students abut diversity and different cultures. It is perfect for this age and grade level. I really recommend it because it's not too wordy and the pictures are lovely.

My kindergarten class travels the world with little pretend passports throughout the year. This book is a perfect introduction to show that there are many children around the world who live the same in some ways and different in others to us.

I was looking for a book just like this for my peek prek 3 class. we are learning about kids from around the world this yr. and going to be introducing a globe. this book is so helpful to do this with, on their level, great pictures.

Excellent introduction to the global human community. My grandchildren enjoy this book a lot. They are "globals" living in a transnational family, so this book reinforces their personal experience with racial, cultural - linguistic and religious - diversity that surrounds them in their everyday lives.

Ties in nicely with my "KIDZ AROUND the WORLD/ TEACHING UNIT" . .. It's part of my TAI JI FUN . .. CREATIVE DISCOVERY LEARNING APPROACHES helping kidz TO use their MULTI ~ Intelligences and various hands-on senses . . . W - A - A - A - H what a fun- der- ful way to engage our kidz' attention !!! This is just one of several of the series books that shows authentic photos of many different CULTURES, and tells a little bit about some ( still wish there was more about the Mid-Eastern Cultures . . .) We need to understand MORE . . in order to create MORE PEACE-MAKING . . . don' cha' think?!??
