Great overall
Update: I changed my 3 stars to 5 stars. The turn off after so many minuets (battery saver) was on. Amazing product and compatible with any as card up to 1TB!! Loud sound and Bluetooth connection. It’s cool I like it, I love all the stuff it has and I’m glad it can expand to 1tb. Only downside is that when it’s not being used or if you set it down it turns off and it takes a bit to start up. I’m not sure if that’s a battery saver thing or something I can change but I don’t like that at all it should stay powered on unless battery runs out. Comes with case, wired ear buds, and charger. Besides that it’s super cool I wished it was perfect, lol.

One of those long reviews with instructions
3.75 stars Tldr: lacking a bit of sound quality through both bluetooth and wired connections. Missing some richness and not quite enough bass. My phone sounds better. Gives warning about squeezing, vibrating, falls and water. Makes me think it's destinied for death. (We shall see) IMPORTANT PRE NOTICE: -you cannot charge this with a phone cord!!! it's too powerful. You need to use the cable it comes with or one of your own 5V cords (thats for low power devices like mini photo printers, headphones, maybe a small label maker, that kind of stuff) -pictures shown are my image customizations and the poweramp app from the playstore Now that's out of the way here's what you do: 1. Power on the device and connect to your wifi 2. Go on chrome and google "agptek firmware update T08x", open the page in the agptek website and download the firmware update (the device is going to get hot, ideally keep a fan on it while it does the firmware update. At least keep the case off and get air flow around it if you dont have a fan) Dont use it at all while it downloads!! Be patient. 3. Shutdown the device once it's done downloading. If you didn't mitigate the heat from the download, leave it off until its a normal temperature (few minutes). If its ok, just restart the device (Now we have a fresh start) 4. Now go into your settings. Go to "Security" you'll see to red areas. The security update and the google play store update. Do both of these (it said i couldnt do the security update and was marked for December 2024. But its still red, so idk, if you can do it, do it. If not, then just update the play store) again, keep the device cool during the downloads and dont use it while its downloading! (Also i wouldn't be doing much browsing and stuff on this with the lowered security) 5. Once those are done, change your preferred settings. (Add dark mode, change font if you like. But dont add battery saver. We dont want that right now) You also want to disable the setting for auto shutdown after 10 minutes. The device needs to discharge 1-2 times when you first get it, so you don't want this setting on right now. But go turn it back on after your battery has died and been charged twice. 6. Now we deal with the apps. Login to your google play and either update all the apps or delete them. I personally deleted them. I want a local player for local files. If you update, do it one at a time and dont use the device during the downloads. Keep it cool while it downloads. I tried updating them just out of habit and they all failed. So idk if that will also happen to you or not. If you can, great, if not then.. that's what you got. 7. Now add any apps you DO want to use. I added Poweramp as my player, Readera for my books and i might try either Voice audiobook player or Smart Audiobook Player for audiobooks. (Really though, the screen is pretty small for reading ebooks, but i wanted them on there just for backup and any awkward situations where i need a book lol) 8. Now the SD card. If you have a new microSD card, eject the other card, and put yours in the device and format it (itll automatically ask you to format it). Do this BEFORE you load it up on your PC!! It needs to be empty (or be ok with it being erased). I repeat it WILL erase everything once formatted (it'll ask you before doing that). Once the device has been formatted, you can eject it and prepare it for downloading your files (i connect mine to my PC through a microSD adapter via USB, but however you do it is fine). If youre using the loaded SD card, you should be able to just load it up in your preferred way, it should be formatted. Youll need to load a file onto it to do the next step. 7. Now, Turn on your bluetooth in the pulldown menu (or settings) and connect to your headphones. Also test your headphone jack to make sure it works and your audio cord works. I found out the hard way my aux cable was toast (i havent used the wire in a long time obviously, most things now don't use them. I had to buy a new cord). I tested the distance my bluetooth will let me go. Im very happy with the distance. I can move 15ft away from the device and bluetooth still works consistently. This might vary depending on your headphones/speaker. But, i got 15ft. This next part is what made me give 3.75 stars: The sound quality on any of my headphones wasnt as good as on my phone. Which, honestly, i expected it to at least match quality. I mean, I'll get used to it, it wasnt a huge difference, but enough to notice. (Edit: through poweramp i was able to improve/correct the sound issues i was having, it now actually sounds surprisingly good. Im much happier with it now). I am actually pleasantly surprised with the built in speaker quality though (edit: Nope lol. I tested Bob Dylan on this originally, which DID sound great because its a harmonica, a guitar and his voice. Anything with bass or depth does not sound good on the built in speakers). It gets very loud too. Of course, it is also missing bass. (If you only listen to flac files, and you have good ears for sounds, this isnt the player for you, it wont be high enough quality) I honestly like everything about this player except the sound. 8. Ok, you're pretty much set up now!! Now you can go login to your apps, add more files to your SDcard, change your wallpapers, mess around with your sound quality/equalizers, decorate your case. Have fun! Important Notices: 1. dont squeeze it, vibrate it, drop it or get it wet. Those are the warnings in the pamphlet. So it isnt as protected as our phones from damage. Be gentle. 2. I cannot speak for the longevity of this device ive only had it a few days. Does it seem like it'll last a long time? No. It doesnt. But, I'm delusionally optimistic it'll last me years to come. 3. I'm not a fancy tech guy, these are just the steps i took to set up my player. 4. This might have android 14, but it doesnt make it a high powered device. Be chill about your expectations. Personally i just want it to play my local 100gb music library offline. So if you're here for the streaming, you might have a different (and more frustrating) experience with the device than i will. Cant say for sure. Good luck! 5. I paid 48.00, i saw one commenter paid 40.00, if the price is above the 40 range, dont buy it. Its not good enough for 50+ dollars.

Great if you want a cheaper e reader
I bought this to have a mini e reader and it’s perfect for ebooks, the battery if only used for ebooks has lasted me days. I have not tried an audio book but plenty of storage for downloading books.

Awkward interface
Update! After a lot of perseverance, and with the help of a thin-bladed knife, I was able to move whatever was blocking the sd card from being inserted, and the unit is at least functional again, so I've upgraded it to three stars. I'm not sure whether I can trust being able to remove the sd card again if I want to update my music. So far, I haven't been able to find an app that would let me plug this directly into my Mac, and treat it as an external drive, so removing the sd card, plugging it into my computer, editing the contents, then returning it to the player is the only way to update the contents. If you want to listen to both music and podcasts, I recommend downloading separate apps for each, as the included app co-mingles the two. I like to play music on shuffle, and don't particularly want a podcast sprinkled in with the music! ********************** This lasted about 6 weeks - just long enough to get beyond the date when it could be returned. It was problematic from the start - the Android implementation is pretty weird, and it often took several tries to get it to play what I wanted to hear. Final straw: today I removed the sd card to add some items, and now it won't go back into the player. Works in other sd card receptacles, but something seems to have moved in the unit so it does not allow the card to go all the way in (and yes, I did have it oriented properly!). Without the sd card, this is pretty much useless!

Cute — for good and bad, but almost all GOOD!
tldr; if you’re looking for something that isn’t a phone, isn’t a kindle, and isn’t something you need to load music on, this is it! It only gets hot sometimes! 10/10 super happy as of this purchase. PROS: it’s got everything I wanted — connects to my Spotify (my iPhone 15 was getting too hot to play it), connects to both Kindle and Libby (my kindle died just before I got this), and doesn’t clog up with too many apps AFTER I cleaned the unneeded garbo out of it. There’s no camera, and trust me that’s a good thing, it helps keep it light weight and more cool. It’s got an Android system, so using it is simple and intuitive even to me who is an iOS person. The sound isn’t any different than my iPhone, using cheaper bluetooth headphones that connect easily (with a caveat). I appreciate the small (read: cheap) speaker on the device so I can play it like that when the moment calls. CONS: this is TINY like I’m a small woman, it’s barely bigger than my hand, and typing on it for me is so hard I can’t imagine someone else doing something as tiny. The honest opinion is that it feels like a toy, or something that was fashionable when I was in middle school ~2008: small to the point of it being “cute”, with cheaper feelings and connection ports. Don’t expect a lot from this, it’s less than $100 and does what it needs to. OVERHEATING IS AN ISSUE, but literally only if I overuse it, such as trying to play games, listen to music, and/or play videos (YouTube DOES work!) but that’s it.
