Fantastic flashlight.
I really recommend this flashlight for anyone looking for midsize, durable, metal flashlight. It is great for carrying when hiking, camping, or just having in a drawer or closet. The brightness is great and I really like that it has three different brightnesses to choose from. It is easy to use and changing the batteries is super simple as well. I like that it is labeled directly on the head of the flashlight where it will get hot if the flashlight is used for an extended period of time. I like the push button switch versus a slider for turning on and off the flashlight. Turning the head of the flashlight to expand or narrow the beam of light is very simple and does not stick so it makes it easy to use. I feel like this would be a flashlight that would be usable for anyone. Overall functionality of the flashlight I give it a 10/10.

Quality flashlight
This is the second time I have ordered this flashlight. I can't get over how well-made this is for the price. I keep one in my kitchen for emergencies. It takes AA batteries, and they do not discharge quickly with it. The beam is very bright and adjustable for a more finely tuned spotlight. It is a metal case and feels substantial in our hand.

All round great flashlight, simple and easy to use.
WOW!!! I must say this is the flashlight of my dreams. I have been disappointed by many flashlights of various sizes but this flashlight checks off all my wants and more. Very simple to use. I don't have to scroll through every option. I can easily switch from wide range to a pinpoint (not literally) scale to target in on whatever. Very bright and the wide range is really wide and I can easily see everything. It is not what I would consider heavy but it is a solid weight so I wouldn't want to drop this on my foot, BUT it has a wrist band. Highly recommend.

Dimmest light in it’s class.
Edit: I got to say with this light lacked in a brightness made up and Customer Service. They sent me a new light I didn’t even ask for it and it definitely was brighter , and smoother and more even. I could tell that the LED array was different. So you still need to make sure you get the right one I think if the light looks like the one in the photo are you might wanna tell them to send you a newer one. But one things for sure, if you’re looking for a company that will stand by their product instead of someone with no address or Internet presence and impossible to get a hold of, Gearlight will take care of you. So kudos to them and I look forward to trying out their future products. was anxious to get this light and try it out. It seems to have decent build quality and the focusing ring is smooth. It also has a AA battery adapter so you get the choice between using an 18650 cell or three AAs. Three AA should give you a nominal voltage of 4.5 V as compared to 3.7 V with the 18650. In theory you should get a little bit more brightness out of the AAs. The other thing that I find curious is that the manufacturer doesn’t mention what kind of LED array is being used for the lamp. In my experience this is not a good sign as flashlights that use the Cree arrays are usually pretty proud of that fact, particularly the XHP series. I’m not a fan of the tail cap switch but it’s not a dealbreaker. This one has one but it feels like it’s decent quality. My basic problem is that it’s just not very bright. I don’t wanna mention names because it seems like my reviews get kicked back whenever I mention other brands so let’s just say I’ve comparing this light to one of similar price, between 10 and $20. And it uses a Cree XHP50. You can see by the photo where I have focused them at about the same size circle, and the one on the left that is the Cress is significantly brighter than the Gearlight. The wider you go, the bigger and more noticeable the difference. And remember the Gearlight is getting .8 V more juice to the diode. The light also has a little bit more of a yellow cast to it with a strong yellow fringe around the edge. However before you get to the edge the light circle is fairly evenly lit. That shows it does have a decent focusing lens and reflector. The XHP 50 wall considerably brighter it does show a more uneven lighting pattern. One cool thing about these LED flashlights that focus is that when you bring the beam down to its most narrow focus you’re essentially projecting an image of the actual LED array onto whatever you’re shining light on. So if you shine it on a flat white surface you get a decent image of the actual LED array. Or you can see the two comparisons that I’ve tried to keep the doorway about the same size so the Cree has its typical quad array which it has been using for sometime. The gear A has these narrow strips and essentially a zigzag pattern. I’ve seen these arrays before but in much older lamps. And if you use the size of the doorway to compare you can see the Cree is actually much bigger. There obviously a lot of people very happy with this light and my guess is they don’t have a lot of experience with high output compact flashlights. I do and this one is just too dim for me. Especially considering all of the varied low cost options out there.

Great Well-Made Flashlight But Wish It Were More Like a Maglite in Certain Ways
The flashlight is very well-made and incredibly bright, almost too bright to use outdoors at night (it ruins your night vision). But I wish it were more like a Maglite in a number of ways. For one thing, the on/off button is inconveniently on the back end of the device, and you can't just depress the button to shine a beam momentarily. You have to click on, then click off. Also, the initial click turns on a blindingly bright high beam. To get to the "low" beam you have to cycle through two more off, then on again click sequences. Then, if you have the light off for more than 20 seconds, you'll have to cycle again the same way to get back to the desired low-beam setting once more. It would be great if you could just momentarily flash the beam without having to click on/off, and if you could pick the desired "on" beam intensity from the three possible brightness levels without the endless cycling. With the Maglite and a twist of the flashlight head, I could get an almost parallel beam that could be focused at variable distances to spotlight an object. With the S2500 Gearlight, the zoom goes from a very broad beam to a much narrower but still expanding beam. My main use of a flashlight is to wander my 3/4 acre yard when the sprinkler system is running at night and ensure none of the rotor heads are caught up on any grass runners or other yard debris and not blast the neighbors' bedroom windows with a very bright light. I decided to put single-use Lithium AA batteries in my Gearlight to avoid the alkaline battery leaks that have plagued my Maglite (and why I purchased a Gearlight). If you leave the Gearlight full-on for any length of time, the metal shell, especially around the lens, gets very warm. Fortunately, my usage requires only momentary use of the beam. Otherwise, I would think the device would eat its way through batteries rapidly (I haven't owned the S2500 long enough to tell. I will update my battery endurance experience after a summer of use). In short, the Gearlight is a very high-quality flashlight with some annoying idiosyncrasies. The brightness of its highest beam is amazing but causes serious eye strain if you look at anything nearby with it with your pupils fully dilated from night darkness. If you could focus the beam more, you wouldn't need such a bright light and could conserve battery power more. An ability to set the default ON setting to "low beam" would help my use case for the Gearlight. But it's a great little flashlight, and when I want to turn night into day, I have that ability in a very compact, well-made form factor.

Rock Solid - Brightest and Toughest Flashlight I've ever had
I have had this light for six years. I have stored it on a high shelf above a stone floor - it has dropped many times from 7 feet onto the hard stone floor and has suffered no damage. I am more worried about the floor. You could probably use this light as a hammer it is that tough. The switch stopped working recently, but I was able to repair it. If it stops working, remove the butt cap (with the on/off switch) and use a paper clip to connect the battery pack nipple to the case - if it lights, the switch has probably failed. I was able to disassemble the switch and found the contact with the battery pack (shorter metal tab) to be bad. I soldered some additional metal to that tab to get a better connection and it is working great again. Not sure if the tab broke or what caused this, but easy enough to fix. Would pay for a new butt cap if vendor sells parts :-).

Perfect emergency torch.
It’s an emergency torch for one reason only: the tedious battery replacement/ charging. I paired it with Panasonic eneloop pro for good charge hold capacity. The brightness is good for the cost. Has lasted me over 4 months now. Build is very sturdy. The only drawback is the flimsy and cumbersome AA battery holder. A rechargeable option would have been wonderful. Also it cant hold Li-ion batteries.

A great flashlight for home, garage & garden
Not that it is used all the time - but when you need extra light this flashlight is brilliant. Its high quality and sturdy manufacture - made by USA company Gear Light. With 4 standard AA batteries - and LEDs - it lasts a long time. Very handy around the car, garage, and while working in the house...
