Is this easier to season than a molcajete? my hands got raw from grinding the rice in my molcajete (lava stone). so i've never been able to use it.

Just once and took only a few minutes as granet is harder and smoother.

It is unpolished Inside like a typical mortar... heavy and pretty at the same time. It's rougher inside as it's supposed to be . I really like it. It's a fantastic buy.
