Probiotic Nasal and Sinus Rinse

I have suffered with sinus problems for years. I hardly ever sleep in a bed anymore because I need to sleep upright to keep them draining or I develop a sinus infection. I don't remember the last time I woke up without a sinus headache. I started using ProbioRinse about a week ago. Within 3 days, I stopped blowing blood out of my sinuses. This morning I woke up without a headache. Of course, if your sinuses don't need probiotics, then this product won't work for you other than the usefulness of rinsing your sinuses. For me it's been near miraculous. Here's what I did: The first couple of days I used two packets per rinse and rinsed once per day (with my Sinupulse Elite). Then I decided that 2 packets per day would probably be more than I really felt like spending long term and decided to see if I could combine one packet of ProbioRinse with one packet of SinuAir saline powder and that seems to be working very well. My "recipe": one packet of ProbioRinse, one packet of SinuAir, a few drops of baby shampoo (Toms) as a surfactant, with about 20 ounces of body temperature water. I use a shaker bottle because the ProbioRinse doesn't dissolve well without agitation.

For 6 months, I suffered with a severe post nasal “flow” and hacking extended intense coughs. Three MD’s could find no way of solving this problem. My Primary finally sent me to an Allergist who, aside from severely overprescribing antibiotics had no effect. After 2 months of seeing him repeatedly, he finally had me get a CT scan that showed a sinus infection but, by the time I got to see the ENT he eventually sent me to I had healed it by some mental techniques I teach - or so he told me. But still the post nasal river and hacking coughing continued. I was pretty near my wits end when my Ophthalmologist mentioned an entrepreneur friend of hers who had developed ProbioRinse. I immediately ordered it. After the first 3 days of using it, I was about 50% better. After the full 14 day course, I’m about 90 to 95% better. I just got another box to keep around just in case. Very highly recommended. In researching this product, I found the following in Quebec Science: “Health Canada (like the US FDA) has recently approved ProbioRinse, a product developed by Martin Desrosiers, a clinical researcher at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Montréal in Montreal, Canada. “This product contains a probiotic bacteria called Lactococcus lactis W136, which will be delivered directly to the nasal passages, and represents a first in the medical world. These probiotics have an antibacterial activity in the nose,” specifies Dr.Desrosiers. This is hardly surprising: The Lactococcus lactis bacteria has been used for over 100 years in the food industry to prevent undesirable bacterial and fungal overgrowth in foodstuff.“

I really had high hopes for this product. I am a chronic sinus infection sufferer. I do think that this makes a difference in my rinses. The issue that I have it that is it is very hard to dissolve and that is why I didn't give it 5 stars. It is time consuming to heat up distilled water and then add it to mix it and then add cold to do the rinse. Even when you try to do it that way it doesn't dissolve easily. I would love if they could either fix that or sell it in a liquid.

I'm updating my review of this item, after complaining earlier about it possibly giving me acute ear issues. I now believe that these acute ear symptoms were simply a coincidence, being directly caused by a really bad cold I had back in January. I've since reintroduced this probiotic rinse back into my daily regimen, and I believe it is helping reduce stuffiness, congestion, and potentially allergies. My one complaint is that the availability on Amazon is spotty, so I do have to ration my use. I purchased this product after getting my yearly winter sinus infection (I have persistent problems year-round, but the cold & flu season seems to trigger secondary infections), and I wanted to see if this product would help. I already use a nasal probiotic from Nasobiotex, with moderate success, but I thought it might be useful to introduce another strain into my regimen given that single-strains can become susceptible to changes in the environment/competition and threats from other bacteria/viruses.

I have had chronic sinus infections for over 25 years. I had sinus surgery which did not help. Prior to discovering ProBioRinse, I had to dissolve an antibiotic ointment in my saline rinse every day, all year round. Even with doing that for over 10 years, I still needed to take oral antibiotics a couple times a year. ProBioRinse has allowed me to discontinue using both types of antibiotics. Initially, I had to use 2 boxes of ProBioRinse - one packet twice a day for 28 days. Now at the first sign of an infection starting (usually after catching a cold), I just use a packet a day for a few days, until the signs of infection are gone. I have now been able to go several months without needing to use ProBioRinse at all.

Absolutely did not help, maybe exacerbated the situation. Probably not a coincidence I wound up with a major sinus infection after using it consistently for about 2 weeks. I let some time go by and tried again. The following day, another flare-up. I think the fact that it doesn't dissolve, and it globs together is a problem. Who knows what's in here, but certainly some proteins or whatever that do not belong in the sinuses and can exacerbate things.

The rinse functions like all other rinses and does not seem to improve sinus more than any of the other rinses.
