how hard is it to clean?

Very easy. We use ours regularly. I pull out the pan and wipe down and then just wipe down the glass with a little soap and water. My sister has the larger one and she says the same. It’s a great machine.

Does this have an automatic shut off?

No. It has an on off switch located on the upper right hand side.
