How much weight can it safely handle?

I am not sure, but I would guess 250 lbs would be safe. It’s a good piece for gymnastics. I’ve been using it for more than a year and I am so happy. My weight is 170 lbs, I feel that double it would be safe

How is this mounted and how much height do you need at a minimum?

It is suspended by straps. You can put the straps over a beam, tree limb or pull up bar. I have them suspended by chains and large carabiners. You need about 8-9' minimum to really use these correctly.

How do you increase the resistance as you get stronger, or must you always work with 50% bodyweight?

Add weight. We use a dip belt and add weight to that. Persons body weight + weight on dip belt divided by 2.
