In my opinion, this kettle is not worth the asking price. In fact, it's been made cheaper than kettles sold for less than half of its price. SMEG Kettle base is a piece of chrome-plated plastic, chrome insert on the top is chrome-plated plastic, lid opening mechanism is plastic. It started squeaking after the first use. It's also made out of a thin single-wall stainless steel body, which gets VERY HOT when used. Combined with the handle design, you may burn yourself if you accidentally touch it. I do not see absolutely anything about this kettle to support its reputation as a premium quality product, rather than an attractive design. There are cheaper options out there with a stainless steel-clad base, stainless steel lid opening mechanism, and multiple temperature modes. It should cost 1/4 of the asked price for what it is, in my opinion. EDIT: Received a second kettle as a replacement, and it produced a terrible burning plastic smell the first time we used it. I have plenty of Italian-made cookware, and in my opinion, SMEG kettles are not in line with what is perceived as Italian quality. Their products are made in China, which is not bad in itself, but the quality is not there. Based on my experience with the SMEG Kettle, they are beautifully designed (I really love the look!), but low quality and made out of cheap materials with a cheap plastic-heavy design. I believe that this kettle should be made with double walls, a stainless steel base, and a stainless steel lid opening mechanism for the asked price.

This is my second regular size smeg water kettle (I also just bought a mini for work to make tea and instant noodles). I have not had the negative experiences w any of my three kettles that others have. I bought my first from a diff store site almost ten year ago and it still works beautifully. Maybe just luck, but it’s been a great product. Four stars for the price, but clearly it hasn’t deterred me.

does this product have aluminum where??? This is extreme important info where the aluminum is used on this product. It says this product has aluminum but where? Is it inside? on that case people are drinking aluminum tea daily

Looks great but makes odd, loud popping sounds, then pauses, then continues to heat up. Is there something wrong with the electrical on this? Makes me wonder if this is going to cause a fire someday. Concluded this is not normal but the return window closed a couple weeks back. Disappointed since this was a gift for my wife.
