Just wondering about the odor. Does it smell like bug spray?

No, not at all like most insect repellents. One of the nice things about Skinsations is a light, kind of pleasant fragrance. Maybe something on the odor of baby powder? Not that scent exactly.. but along that line.

how many hours does it work on skin?

I can only answer for my personal experience but, I've been using this stuff for years and really like it. Camping in the Eastern Sierra I put it on first thing out of the sleeping bag and never get a bite. I live in Dallas where it is HOT and way humid and we have biting bugs flying and crawling. I put on sun block, then this over it and work outside for 4-6 hours. I never get a bite. Chiggers are mites in the larvae stage. More or less invisible but nasty little creatures similar to ticks. If I sit outside without spaying my ankles are itching in minutes. I am sitting outside right now and since I applied it, nothing. Different people may have different results but I like this product. I buy a six pack every spring and it'll be gone by October but I won't be chewed up! When we go out to the grasslands to hunt I spray skin, boots and clothes. Works for me, I hope it works as well for you.
