Is it sturdy enough so someone can sit on it ?

Yes.....me (120lbs) and my kids (40lbs & 70lbs) can all sit on it

I just received this and there is along panel for the bottom and only one side panel. Should there have been two?

The bottom of the box is folded. Open it up, place the panel that is stored in the lid on the bottom of the box, take the small panel and insert it in the middle of the box-there are groves for it to slide into.

What is the internal storage dimensions?

There is a panel in the middle so there are two storage areas of 21" in length and 13" wide and deep.

Can this be used outdoors? Will the material hold up outside?

It would be ok, if you took it outside to use on occasion, but not to stay outdoors permanently. It's made very well, but definitely made primarily for indoor use. It's not like patio furniture.
