Produces excellent coffee without breaking the bank
I bought this machine because I’m tired of the grittiness you get at the end of a cup of cafetière coffee. I use the same grounds as before, but because this is much better filtered there’s no grittiness at all.The coffee machine comes with a portafilter (the handle), a single espresso portafilter basket, a double espresso portafilter basket, a plastic tamper and a milk frother and container. The machine has 6 main modes, single espresso, double espresso, cappuccino, latte, milk froth-only (great for adding to a hot chocolate) and a cleaning function. There is also a deep cleaning mode (which you should use along with descaler occasionally to avoid the machine getting full of limescale) which is activated by holding the cleaning function button for a few seconds. When you first turn the unit on it makes a very loud sound as the pump is filled with water for the first time. Don’t worry – this is only the case on the first use!Usage is simple. If you want a coffee requiring milk then fill the milk container with milk, choose between the single or double portafilter basket, use the tamper to fill it with grounds and flatten the coffee. Insert the portafilter into the machine and press the desired button. If the quantities of coffee produced are wrong (for me, the latte mode overflowed over my glass because of the sheer amount of froth), these quantities (of both milk and espresso) can be reprogrammed to suit your mugs/glasses.On the milk frother there is a dial that can be turned to vary the ratio of milk to froth. If you like a really frothy coffee you can turn this up, if you prefer just a tiny bit of froth then you can turn this down. The pump in this coffee machine is an Italian 19 bar pump. This is even more than my friend’s £400 DeLonghi bean-to-cup coffee machine! (And as long as I use fresh grounds, the coffee from this is just as good!)I personally enjoy an americano / long black coffee. There’s no button for this on the machine, but you can reprogram the quantity of espresso/milk produced by each button. I reprogrammed the double espresso button to make a full mug sized americano by holding the double espresso button down until the desired amount of coffee is produced (a full mug), then releasing. The milk container is removable with a button's press so it can be put into the fridge and then reconnected with ease.Leaving the machine switched on for some time causes the top of the unit to warm up so that you can pre-warm mugs/glasses. I did notice that the machine doesn’t automatically switch off to conserve electricity, which could be an advantage or disadvantage depending on your preference. I didn’t see anything in the manual for enabling an ‘eco’ mode or an automatic standby mode.Ultimately I’m very happy with my purchase, cleaning is very easy, the amounts of espresso/milk are programmable, the frother is no-fuss and works at a button’s press and it produces excellent coffee without breaking the bank.

Tricky but works for real deal coffee
This produces great coffee...BUT it takes a bit of getting used too & isn't quick. Not like a pod machine.First having to warm cups for 10 minutes, to me this is just silly. A hot water nozzle would of been quicker & more effective. Being able to warm the cup that way.To clean the machine the milk container should be empty and filled with water...if you over estimate your milk you have to keep throwing milk down the sink. The portafilter can be tricky and getting your cup out afterwards is also fun if it's a mug or travel mug.Aside from this the machine is great. I also recommend rave coffee fudge blend 😍

it lasted 24 hours
The packaging was damaged and repaired before the courier picked it up. Machine was not damaged, however after filling the milk tank three times the clip that holds the lid on broke. The biggest fault is the milk 'frother' - sorry but there was no froth on any setting, just warmed, steamed milk. A fresh capuccino looked like it had been stood for 5 minutes. The temperature was very low, there was a card advising to run an espresso through with no coffee, but that just wastes electricity, water and time. I expected much more from Gernan engineering, and much better output at this price. Returned after 24hrs, hats off to Amazon for a slick returns process. Back to the research!

Lukewarm Coffee
I purchased this machine on 29 September, just as a critical review was being posted. If I had waited 1 day I would not have bought it.The Machine is impressive in the way it works, but the actual versatility is less impressive than one would think. Programming away from the factory settings has limits. When 2 people with different tastes share the machine, only one can have their preferred setting.I like a large cup of coffee with a small amount of heated milk {What in the Pyrenees and other parts of Southern France is referred to as "Noisette", or im the Malaga coffee style is called "Semi Largo" or "Largo" It is impossible to recreate any of these 3 variants with this Machine.Faults1 Difficulty bordering Impossible to get the style and taste I desire.2. The temperature is incredibly low3. The texture of the brewed coffee is 'Thin'4. The amount of brewed coffee from the amount of ground beans is very low.I have given it 2 stars because the milk froth produced is quite good. Now I can brew my Bialetti 3 cup stovetop to make expresso, and add one or two shots of Cappucino milk from this machine depending on whether I want 'Largo' or 'Semi Largo'. If only there was a way of doing 1 and 1/2 shots of milk then I could have a 'Noisette'.This produces a cup of coffee which stays hot for a long time.

Lovely design, cold coffee
I returned this product as the coffee always came cold. I like the design and the features, but the temperature is an issue
