Book seven in the New York Times bestselling series A Great War is coming, and it will engulf the Imperium of Man. The Space Marines of the Alpha Legion, the last and most secretive of all the Astartes brotherhoods, arrive on a heathen world to support the Imperial Army in a pacification campaign against strange and uncanny forces. But what drives the Alpha Legion? Can they be trusted, and what side will they choose when the Heresy begins? Loyalties are put to the test, the cunning schemes of an alien intelligence are revealed, and the fate of mankind hangs in the balance. Review: Amazing - Man this was an awesome read! I read this book in 4 days or was that good!! Thank you, Dan!! Review: Wheels within wheels.... - Here I was expecting just another installment of the Horus Heresy saga, military SF at its finest ... and all of a sudden a John le Carre novel broke out.... Dan Abnett never disappoints. Great characters, a fiendishly complicated plot with mysterious twists and turns, and an ambiguous cliffhanger of an ending leaving the reader with a feeling of unresolved dramatic tension and suspenseful dread.

Decent 40k Story
It's pretty good. It's not near as exciting as the first six books but for a totally separate story, it's decent. As always, Dan Abnett wraps up everything very nicely in the last 15 pages. I'm not a Alpha Legion fan, but for those who are, they will enjoy it. 7.5\10

The Journey; Not the Destination
Slow-rolling, spy-movie first half EXPLODES into action in the second half. A great way to explore the Alpha Legion from a human POV.

very good
I liked the plot twist near the end and I like how the alpha legion acts very differently to the other legions

Needlessly convoluted, peak Alpha Legion
The most unnecessary and obtuse spy story ever. Alpha Legion pointlessly uses lies when the truth would do. Manipulating the Imperial Army through deception and subterfuge when theyโre already above it in the chain of command, the Alpha Legion shows us why theyโre the most tedious of the Astartes legions. Still, itโs who they are and the novel demonstrates that well. The best parts of the novel come from the characterizations of the Geno Five-Two Chiliad. The genetically modified grunts caught in the crossfire of a power struggle between the Alpha Legion and the 670th Expeditionโs Lord Commander. John Grammaticus and the Cabal are introduced. Like the Alpha Legion, they orchestrate complex plots within plots when they could have simply sent an email to explain their point. This book is for anyone that wants to know more about the Alpha Legion or wants a Space Marine story told not from the perspective of the space marines themselves, but from the regular humans that have to put up with them.

Legion
A little harder to get into at first because all the new words I believe the author made up. English is not my first language so I cannot be sure lol. But definitely one of the more suspenseful so far.

Slow burn, but well-worth
Legion sets up an incredible tale of deceit and conflict, with a large amount of character development and familiarization before the action truly kicks off. Definitely a deserving tale for the Alpha Legion.

Not what I expected at all, in the best possible way!
Making my way through the Heresy and this is my favourite so far. Very well written, exciting. Not like anything else WH that Iโve read.

A nice little imperial guard novel, not sure why there is an ultramarine on the cover but hey, he does look cool.
