Why does one of my handsets have no sound at all?

How long would a set of standard Duracell batteries last? Asking because the last pair I bought (another model) lasted only 10 min!

Not practical enough.

These things pick up all sorts of transmissions, I’m worried my kids will end up speaking to random strangers or the police! It does drain the battery quickly, unfortunately there isn’t an auto shut off option so if my kids forget to turn it off… it will kill the battery. Randomly shuts off requiring the battery to be removed to reset and turn back on.
