LeapFrog Mr. Pencil's ABC Backpack

I don't often leave reviews, but just had to for this one. I actually bought two of the backpacks. One for my 4 year old and 1 for my 3 year old. I can't say enough good things about this toy. It is a sturdy well made product. I don't feel that it is overpriced for what you are getting. This toy is solid and well made, it should last a long time. It isn't too large, and the mess is self contained. It will travel good as well. The letters are super tight like another reviewer said, which is great! I don't think we will be losing the letter pieces any time soon. Even though the letters are tight, my 3 year old was still able to pull them out and put them back in. Mr pencil is tethered to the toy, and won't get lost. It has several different games and both of my girls have loved playing with them. My older girls have enjoyed helping their siblings as well. The age range is spot on. My 3 year old enjoys the hands on puzzle aspect of it and all the different songs. She isn't coordinated enough to draw the letters or pictures too good, but she has fun trying. My 4 year old loves trying to write all the letters, and is doing quite well. It is interesting enough that it can hold their attention for a good half hour, and they will play with it on their own. Interacting and helping them with it makes it even more educational. I really think this toy will help them learn their alphabet. I love that the letter pieces are capitals. Because usually we teach capital letter first. They do have a button for drawing lower case letters as well though. Probably my favorite feature is that it teaches your child how to draw letter animals. That feature alone will make this toy last longer. My older kids 9 and 6 love that aspect. The only thing I wish is that they had made the letters magnetic, then they could have been letter stamps as well. Overall it's a great toy, and I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

This is such a wonderful gift. I bought this for my 2 year old autistic grandson and he literally taught himself all his alphabet using it in just a matter of weeks. Highly recommend. It is by far one of his favorite toys and he has so much fun learning. The only downside is if the child is rough on toys the write on screen part doesn’t hold up well but I don’t think that’s bc of a manufacturing issue, I think it’s just bc of what it is and it would be the same issue regardless of maker bc you need to be gentle with that type of activity. Other than that it is a very durable toy for a little one who plays rough. Lol - (nanny/grandma review) To check all the boxes- functionality- wonderful. Brightness- perfect. Battery life- surprisingly good considering he plays with it constantly!

I’m honestly blown away by this toy! I have three children so we have gone through our fair share of “learning toys” and this is definitely up there with the best, if not one of the best options on the market right now for phonics and reading readiness. The “mystery word“ game alone makes this such a standout toy. It’s a collection of three letter, high frequency words and the backpack will give you the sound the first letter makes and a clue to the letter then the child presses the letter they they think it is. This repeats until all three letters have been correctly guessed and then it sounds out the letter sounds quickly so the child learns how to sound out the letters and form the word. My four year old loves this game. This also teaches them to write upper and lowercase letters, draw fun animals using letters and has a letter matching game. My two year old is also enjoying this toy so I’d say it’s great for a wide range of ages. The drawing board is very nice. Sometimes I feel like those magnetic drawing boards don’t erase well, almost like you can see faint lines after you erase and then they never fully go away. That is not the case here. This one erases very well and I appreciate that. Our “W” letter doesn’t click in and lock all the way so I’m worried we may lose that one but the rest lock in very well. I didn’t see any other reviews mention the issue with the W letter so I would assume it’s not an ongoing problem, but wanted to mention. Overall, this is a quality toy that actually does teach useful preK and Kinder skills and for that, I highly recommend this toy.

Christmas gift was a big hit

Very easy to use. Kids can be engaged in multiple activities. My kids and niece and nephew enjoyed it so much. I always recommend this to all the parents with young kids. Comes in different colors and is very cute backpack so kids can take it everywhere. You can play with the magnetic letters or without it.

My grandson loves it and it has lasted through his many tumbles
