Ambient Weather WS-1002-ARRAY Sensor Array for WS-1000, WS-1001, WS-1002, WS-1200, WS-1201, WS-1400, WS-1401 Weather Stations

This is my second unit of same model. First lasted 4 years and suffered through ice storms, snow, sleet and at least two direct hits from hurricanes, last one being Florence... and continued to work until last month. So replaced with new unit and it is working fine, though have just had it up a couple of weeks. Readings are accurate. I had to setup a new WunderStation connection which proved troublesome but tech helped by telling me to make sure ip ObserverIP unit and computer were hooked up to same modem in order to sync. Everything working perfectly now.

I bought this unit as a replacement for my first one which lasted less than a year from when I received it in Australia. Unfortunately the manufacturer said that the warranty applied from date of purchase so they wouldn't replace it.This second unit has lasted 1 year and almost 2 months from the date of purchase.The unit works very well - when it is working!Needless to say, I won't be buying an Ambient Weather unit again.

I replaced this Ambient Sensor Array after Harvey got my first one. After 9 months up the wind sensor bearing gave out with no way to fix except replace the whole sensor at full cost. I had purchased this sensor earlier but had not put it up so I was out of the one year limited warranty that Ambient offers on their products.

The WS-1002 is far weaker than the WS-1001. The 1001 lasted for 4 years before giving up the ghost; I replaced it (then 3 weeks later replaced it again) with a WS-1002. I have the array mounted on a pole mounted on the metal roof of our barn. With the receiver 20 feet away (inside the barn), my readings are very sporadic. While the old 1001 array never stopped its readings in 4 years (except when the batteries died), and when testing read well at 60 feet from the array, this array is more hit or miss. I've moved the receiver to within 8 feet of the array; we'll see if that does any better.******Ok, it doesn't help short of putting the receiver outside with the array. This "upgraded" array from Ambient has caused me to lose faith in them entirely. I'll be going with another vendor for a weather station in the near future. Whatever Ambient has done is failing completely. When I talked to tech support, they simply didn't have any ideas outside of replacing the array (again). When it works, it is great. But it just loses signal for 20-50 minutes at a time, which leads to a significant hole in data gathering during an event.

I liked that I was able to replace the Sensor Array while keeping the older display console. This Weather Station has served me well for many years. I report to Weather Underground with it, and its rainfall accuracy is a major plus, here in stormy Florida. I was concerned with the new power supply using super capacitors, but even after many cloudy days, I've never lost a reading. It seems to work like a charm. Highly recommended either as a replacement, if required, or as part of the complete Ambient system.

Just installed this unit to replace my old sensor. It bit the dust after 2 hurricanes. The upgraded sensor uses a high capacity capacitor instead of rechargeable batteries . The solar panel charges the capacitor. It also uses three lithium batteries as back up ...not supplied. They recommend lithium. They are a little expensive but worth it if it last they last few years. Everything seems to be working fine at present. Only gave 4 stars as the verdict is still out on the upgraded sensor. Note about installation...keep all your old mounting hardware as the small pole and brackets are not supplied.

Great product. Love the information it provides. The new Ambientweather.net page is far superior to the Weather Underground page.I love being able to check the weather at my house from anywhere.

Works like the original unit that I bought.
