Is the microphone on this clear/sound close when using for a call? (I have the original 1st version of this speaker and it's not clear at all)

I have the 1st mini and use it all the time for my zoom / Teams meetings. Only once was my voice poor. I unplugged and plugged it back in and everything has been fine since. You may want to try a new cord. The 1st mini used the order style charging end. Good luck!

Can it be plugged in to use or does it have to run off of its battery?

It seems to work while plugged in and charging as well as from the built-in battery if it has charge in it.

if i use an audio jack/type-c adapter, can i use the speaker without bluetooth?

Probably not. The User Manual calls it the USB-C Charging Port and makes no mention of use as an audio input. To confirm, you could send an email to service at soundcore dot com. As a comment, it sounds so good with Bluetooth, especially with the Custom EQ setting shown in my review) that there's not much reason to use a cable for audio input.
