40,000 seeds planted without a single thyme appearance. UPDATE Five Stars
UPDATE June 2022 - Last year I was very unhappy (see my 2021 complaint below). This year I noticed beautiful, large patches of thyme. It took an entire season to establish (I live in MN). Wish I had known before I left a negative review. Prepare the area to be planted and be patient. I planted two bags of seeds in a freshly tilled area after the last freeze. Was excited when I saw groups of plants pushing through the soil. All turned out to be clover. Not a single thyme seed germinated. Lots of clover though. Almost as if it was clover that was sown. 40,000 seeds without a single thyme plant. What are the odds?

This is NOT purple creeping thyme
The seeds I received did grow a variety of thyme, and it does spread, but it also gets taller than expected and has white flowers, not purple. It has to be at least 8 in tall, I cut it shorter periodically and it survives this well. Now that it's a few years old I noticed it's getting "woody" stems near the bottom, it almost forms a net of stems, if I cut it back significantly I see that it's only in the ground in the areas I originally planted the seed pod. I'm happy enough with it bc it worked as a needed ground cover, but I feel deceived/disappointed it is not the plant pictured.

Great germination!
Planting Zone 4a. I started these seeds in my AeroGarden; and then transplanted them to a bare, sunny spot in our yard. Slow grower, takes about 8-10 weeks to get a good plug though, so start early before last frost.

Didn't get the germination that we expected despite great growing conditions
I bought these to seed around the back of my pool deck. Unfortunately, we got very little germination even though they were planted in an ideal spot for this species.

Great Seeds, Perfect for Groundcover!
I picked up these Wild Creeping Thyme Seeds from Seed Needs to use as groundcover in my garden, and they’ve worked out great. The packets came with a generous amount of seeds, more than enough for my project and some to share with friends. The detailed sowing information on the packet made planting straightforward, and the beautiful illustration was a nice touch. I followed the instructions and saw germination within days, which was very encouraging. The seeds were fresh and well-packaged in tear-resistant and moisture-resistant packets, ensuring they stayed in good condition. I appreciate that these seeds are heirloom and open-pollinated, with no GMO products. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I had a few spots where the seeds didn’t take as well as I hoped. However, that could be due to my soil conditions rather than the seeds themselves. Overall, I’m happy with the results and would recommend these seeds for anyone looking to add some lovely groundcover to their garden.

I'm so happy with these
I didn't decide to plant a ground cover by the side of the house until June when it was too late to start the seeds in pots so I loosened up the soil, added some bagged outdoor planting soil, mixed it in the top few inches, raked the space, and sprinkled the seeds on top. I ran a hose over there with sprinklers attached and watered them 4 times a day or so for the first 7-10 days. Once they were popping up all over the place I gradually reduced the watering so that now, about six weeks after planting, I'm watering every 2nd or 3rd day, depending on how hot it is. The spot they're in is part shade/part sun so if it were full sun I think I'd have to water a lot more at this time of year (July) to ensure they didn't dry up and die. They probably won't flower as much over there as they would in full sun but it looks like they'll form a nice dense cover which is what I wanted. I ended up having to order two packs of 20,000 seeds because I was sprinkling them right out of the packet the first time which was stupid. I thought I was being so careful but was only half through my space when the packet was empty. These seeds are TINY!!! The second time, I sprinkled them in my palm so I could see better how many I was distributing and that worked great. So I planted waaaay too many seeds in that space and there is such a thick carpet of thyme now. Perhaps I should thin them but I'm tempted to just leave them and let them work it out. I've posted a photo showing the little plants at this point growing around the paving stones. If planted properly and watered, these seeds are fantastic. A little pricey, but they do the job and are a heck of a lot cheaper than buying the little plugs.

Germinates well
I bought these a few weeks ago and started one pack indoors. I was nervous after reading some of the reviews on germination rate but I used potting soil for seedlings and the little plastic seed starter “greenhouses” with the green bottom and clear top. Because the seeds are so small I mixed in some of the soil into the packet and then sprinkled the combination onto the top of the soil. Water Ed them and then left them covered with the clear “greenhouse” cover by a window where they get direct morning sun. I have now hundreds of starts and need to thin them out to maybe 10% of what I have. I would have used less seeds and started them in other containers but I didn’t think nearly this many would germinate.

None sprouted…not one
Waste of money. I plated these carefully to try to get to sprout before planting them in their permanent place in my garden (since I read the reviews before buying) and not a one sprouted. Nothing. Spend your money elsewhere
