It does what it's supposed to.
It's a firesteel, so there really isn't a lot to go wrong with it. It's nice and chunky and it's got a decent bit of weight to it. You have to remove the paint covering first, just like you have to with any new firesteel, but once you have cleaned it off it strikes really well. I have successfully used it to light fires.

Reliable, Well-Made Fire Starter That’s Perfect for Survival Training and Field Use
The bayite 4-inch ferrocerium fire starter is an excellent piece of survival gear and one I’ve been very happy with. It’s simple, durable, and does exactly what a ferro rod should do without gimmicks or unnecessary extras. This is the kind of tool you want to trust when conditions aren’t ideal. Build quality is solid right out of the package. The ferro rod itself is thick at 3/8 inch in diameter, which makes a big difference in durability and spark production. It doesn’t feel brittle or cheap, and it holds up well to repeated strikes. The 4-inch length is a great balance. It’s long enough to get a strong, controlled strike but still compact enough to pack easily in a kit, pocket, or pack. Spark output is excellent. With a proper strike, it throws a shower of hot sparks that ignite tinder quickly and reliably. Even with basic tinder or slightly less-than-perfect conditions, it performs consistently. This makes it especially good for beginners learning fire-starting skills as well as experienced users who want something dependable. The handle and paracord lanyard are well done. The handle provides a good grip, even with gloves on or in damp conditions, and the drilled rod with the paracord keeps everything together nicely. It’s easy to hang from a pack, clip to gear, or keep secured so it doesn’t get lost. The striker works well and produces clean sparks without excessive effort. This fire starter is especially well suited for survival training, camping, hiking, and emergency kits. It’s rugged enough to be used by youths and adults alike without worrying about it wearing out quickly. It also holds up well when used repeatedly during training sessions, which says a lot about its durability. There’s nothing flashy here, and that’s a good thing. It’s a straightforward, well-designed ferro rod kit that focuses on performance and reliability. No unnecessary parts, no fragile components, just a solid fire-starting tool that works when you need it to. Overall, this is a dependable, high-quality ferrocerium fire starter that performs exactly as advertised. Strong spark output, good grip, durable construction, and practical size make it an easy five-star item. If you’re building a survival kit or teaching fire-starting skills, this is a great choice you can rely on.
