Does this work on regular xbox one consoles (not series x or s)?

Yup! This will work with any consoles in the Xbox One family as well.

Does the old xbox rechargable battery work with the new controllers?

The Xbox play and charge kit batteries will work but the old cable won't because the new controllers use USBC. You can use any good quality USBC cable you might have lying around. If you have batteries that use special battery covers they won't fit. The new battery covers are shaped differently. The bay the battery goes into is the same size but the covers are shaped differently.
