Have you tried adding a dab of Vaseline to the axles in the wheels? You might contact the manufacturer direct. They may have had some defective parts.

Could this be pushed around all day at the zoo?

Yes it could . The seat is also a small cargo space . The cup holders in the back however are just a bag that is hanging on. Not that stable but it works . Pushes easy. Had no problems with the wheels
