Chip Quik SMD291SNL50T3 Solder Paste in jar 50g (T3) SAC305 no clean

I previously used this very solder but always bought syringes and the stuff in syringes was not as dry as this and it’s life was at least 1 year from mfg. date. This stuff is only good for another 4 months, probably sat on the shelf for 2 months already not being refrigerated. I’m a bit concerned, I have a run of 100 boards to make and I don’t want to risk running into issues. Called ChipQuick and they say it’s fine, just give it a thorough stir.

As advertised. The paste was fresh enough to meet my expectations. It came with a sticker that says "Expires February 20, 2020" which is half a month short of a year from when a purchased it. I like the expiration sticker. I was happy to find it here on Amazon.

Seems like a great deal compared to similar pastes. It won't stencil well enough for me to do QFN, whereas I have done much finer pitch than that with other T3 pastes. Going to have to set this aside for only basic designs.

Still tweaking the profile, but this is great solder paste. Very few solder balls.... excellent wetting and flow. The profile takes some tweaking to get right. Make sure you give enough prebake to cook the flux.

SMD devices

I use this paste both with a stencil and freehand. It does what it is supposed to do very well, fair price, made in USA/CAD. It is not the lowest temperature melting point on the market, but that's ok. The key comparison is whether it can melt in your toaster oven. It can (430F vs. typically 450-500F). The temperature is low enough for it to be easily workable with an air gun. To get the most reliable, strong, and fine pitch (0.5mm) joints, expect to need some practice. I recommend watching videos about paste technique. Definitely get familiar with braid rework. Happy soldering!

This paste has a high melting point and requires long times to reflow but forms a hi-strength bond to the PCB. The best application would be used for components that have high shear forces applied to it - like connectors or buttons. This is not my recommendation for SMD components due to the high temps required and the low malleability of the paste (difficult to apply).

Una piacevole scoperta questa pasta saldante (non pasta salda), serve a saldare i componenti SMD con la stazione saldante. Non vi aspettate un barattolone tipo quello della marmellata, è un prodotto che non ha una durata di anni quindi essendo costoso viene venduto in piccole quantità, una volta aperto credo si abbia meno di un anno di tempo prima che sia inutilizzabile... almeno così dicono! Per il resto, ottima consistenza e si salda facilmente! A++
