The Best 37-Qt Dual-Zone Fridge Freezer at this Price
This review is for a black ICECO APL35 fridge freezer. I paid $607.20 + tax during a 2026 Labor Day Sale at Amazon. However, the seller was the manufacturer, ICECO. They shipped it free via FedEx. The unit arrived safely and ahead of schedule. My wife and I wanted a modest-size fridge freezer for off-road trips in our 2-door Jeep JK Wrangler Rubicon (with the rear seat removed). We also wanted to be able to use it to transport frozen and refrigerated foods from the grocery store to our home during hot summer months. We chose this model because: (1) the APL35 is very efficient and will run a long time off battery power or from a modest solar system, (2) the APL35 is light weight so we can carry it without too much strain, and (3) the APL35 is super quiet and will not add to the noise. We also liked that each chamber has an LED light to illuminate its interior in the dark. And we liked the 5-year warranty for their SECOP compressor. The APL series is ICECO's light-weight series. Our APL35 has the small "Nano" version of the SECOP compressor. This is a big reason why the APL35 weighs only 32 lbs and makes only 32 dB of sound when the compressor and fan are running in MAX mode (only 30 dB in ECO mode). It is also super efficient, sipping just 0.381 KW/h (kilowatts per hour) when the compressor and fan are running. This is about half the power consumption of cheaper units from other manufacturers. (Note: The "standard" SECOP compressor in the larger 40-quart ICECO JP40 ProS is even more efficient at 0.323 KW/h but it adds 6.4 lbs to the weight and you have only one zone.) Another reason for the APL35's efficiency is its excellent insulation, aluminum outer casing and the thick seal of its lid. We saw a review on HOBOTECH (YouTube) of the APL35 where the energy consumption was tested during a cool night and during a hot day with the unit sitting in direct sunlight. There was almost no difference in the energy consumption between day or night, shade or sunlight. This was astonishing. I tested our APL35 with an ICECO PB250 power station (250 Wh). I set the left (larger) chamber of our APL35 to 0°F and the right (smaller) chamber to 37°F. The APL35 Mode was set to "MAX" and the ambient temperature outside was about 80°F. The PB250 ran our new APL35 for 8.5 hours and went from 100% to 12% during that time. I turned off the PB250 at 12% in order to avoid running its Li-ion battery down too far. The fact that a small power station like the PB250 can run the APL35 for 8.5 hours with the large chamber set as a 0°F freezer is impressive. This was a worse-case scenario because most of the time we will probably use the smaller chamber as a freezer rather than the larger chamber. Another thing that impressed us was that the PB250 has a magnet in its bottom so you can mount it magnetically to any ferrous steel surface. It is even rubberized on the bottom to prevent scratching whatever you afix it to. Well, the APL35 has an aluminum case so the magnet should not stick ... but it did! Evidently, ICECO manufactured the APL35 with some ferrous steel plating underneath the aluminum skin so the PB250 can be easily mounted to it. However, this appears to be true only for the sides because the magnet would not stick to the lid. We plan to purchase a second PB250 so we will have two for longer trips when there isn't room for a full-size power station. Now for the dislikes... (1) The printed user manual has good illustrations but the English text is not good and there are many errors. Plus, there is missing information such as how to turn off bluetooth if you don't want it advertising your APL35 to nearby thieves. Or how much weight you can safely place on top of the closed lid (we have seen promotional photos from ICECO showing a heavy PB1000 power station on top as well as a person sitting on the top as if it were a seat). Fortunately the bluetooth transceiver can be turned off from the Settings menu (when you long-press the gear-shaped Setting button for 2 seconds it begins at the Mode setting (MAX or ECO), quick press the Setting button again for the Battery Protection setting (LOW, MED or HIGH), quick press the Setting button again for the Temperature units (Fahrenheit or Celsius), then quick press the Setting button one last time for the Bluetooth setting (ON or OFF). Use the +/– buttons to advance to the next setting. The bluetooth indicator will flash on when bluetooth is turned on and the indicator will be off when bluetooth is turned off. After you've made any changes, just wait 5 or more seconds and the APL35 will automatically exit the Settings menu and implement all changes. As for the max weight that you can put on the lid, I think "very little". Remember, a primary design goal for the APL series is being light weight—not super strong. The lid has a very thin aluminum outer shell and, according to the marketing poop, the interior is filled with some kind of "vacuum insulation" which probably does not provide structural support. And, even if the lid were strong enough to support a couple of hundred pounds, what about its rubber seal? So my recommendation is to ignore the silly promo photos and do not place anything heavy on top of any APL fridge freezer. (2) The power receptacle is mounted on the right side (as you face the front of the APL35) below the control panel and it is located at the very bottom near the floor. This receptacle is keyed so a plug can only be inserted one way—it cannot be rotated to any other direction. For this reason, ICECO provides a 12-V power cable with the APL35 that has a special version of the plug that makes a 90° turn sideways toward the right. The problem is that almost nobody else has this plug. Most of the 12-V power cables that use this type of plug make a 90° turn down. The short 12-V cord that came with ICECO's own PB250 power station has the standard plug that turns down and it cannot be used with the APL35 any time the fridge freezer is sitting on a flat surface or floor. The common down-turned plug can't be used with the APL35 because the floor is in the way!!! So you will have to do what we did and use the 8-foot 12-V power cable that came with the APL35 and use it to connect to the PB250 mounted just inches away. And you'll have to manage all that extra cable by coiling it and securing it with a wire tie of some sort. (3) The Battery Protection feature cannot be turned off. It has only three settings: LOW, MED or HIGH. These settings seem to be designed only for lead batteries (flooded lead-acid and AGM). What setting should be used when connected to a Li-ion battery which, unlike lead-acid and AGM batteries, holds its voltage level while being drained? And there is no battery to protect when you are powering the APL35 from its AC adapter. Therefore, it seems that the Battery Protection feature needs an "OFF" setting. In spite of the above issues, I am still very excited to own the APL35 and I'm rating it 5-stars because it truly is the best in its size and price range. It is the most efficient, lightest and quietest 37-quart fridge freezer! It is my recommendation to anyone looking for a similar portable fridge freezer.

Great fridge/freezer — just understand the power demands of dual-zone use
I’ve had a chance to use and test the ICECO APL35 pretty extensively now, including on camping trips and outdoors in very hot summer temperatures, and overall I’m very happy with it. One of the biggest reasons I purchased it was the dual-zone capability. I wanted to be able to keep regular refrigerated food on one side while actually keeping frozen food frozen on the other, rather than just using it as a cooler. It has absolutely been capable of doing that. I’ve run the refrigerator around 37°F and the freezer around 5°F, and I’ve seen the actual temperatures get down to approximately 33°F and 3°F respectively. I also really like that the compressor cycles completely off once the temperatures are satisfied. While actively cooling, I generally see roughly 25–40 watts of power consumption depending on conditions, but it isn’t continuously pulling that amount. My biggest learning curve has been power consumption. I use mine with an Anker SOLIX C1000, and maintaining a refrigerator AND a true freezer outdoors in 90+ degree weather can use a significant amount of battery over a long weekend. I initially expected better runtime, but after testing it more, I realized ambient temperature, how often you open it, whether the food starts cold/frozen, MAX vs. ECO mode, and whether you’re trying to maintain freezer temperatures all make a substantial difference. My routine now is to pre-cool it at home on AC power, load it with food that is already cold or frozen, run it from my vehicle while driving, and then switch to ECO mode on my power station once I’m at camp. That works much better than expecting the power station to cool everything from scratch. Build quality is one of my favorite things about the APL35. It feels like a genuinely premium piece of camping equipment rather than a cheap electric cooler. I also really appreciate being able to independently control the two compartments. If I no longer need a freezer later in a trip, I can raise that compartment to refrigerator temperatures and reduce the workload. If I had one criticism, it would be that I think buyers should have realistic expectations about power consumption when using one compartment as a freezer in very hot weather. That’s not necessarily a fault of the APL35—it takes energy to maintain single-digit temperatures when it’s over 90°F outside—but it’s something worth considering when choosing the size of your power station or solar setup. Overall, I’m very satisfied with the APL35. It has performed the actual job I bought it for extremely well, and after learning how to manage it efficiently, it has become one of the most useful pieces of equipment in my camping setup. If you want a real portable refrigerator/freezer rather than essentially an electric cooler, I would recommend it.

Don't know how I lived without it. So convenient and efficient.
Oh I love this thing, it keeps my ice cream very cold at -2, and my food just right at 39°. I should have bought this years ago. Plenty of space on the freezer side for three pints of ice cream plus frozen vegetables. Fridge holds plenty of food and beverages. I'd give it 10 Stars if I could.

Excellent traveling companion
Made a cross country trip with this and a shorter trip near home base. Both times this Iceco model worked beautifully. We started off with the big compartment for freezing and towards the end of the trip we switched it. After all the traveling I have done with ice packs and older models of different companies, I am so excited to have purchased this Iceco model. The app is a perfect companion and makes managing the fridge a breeze. Because it is so light, even when it’s stocked I can still carry it. Highly recommended.

Very Useful for Road Trips.
I bought this refrigerator mainly for road trips, and overall I’m very happy with it. It cools down quickly and runs very quietly. When I set it on the floor and turned it on, I could barely hear it running. My only small disappointment is that the freezer compartment is a bit too small. I think most people who choose a powered portable refrigerator like this for traveling would probably want a more practical freezer space for storing meat or other frozen foods. If you only need to keep drinks and regular food cold, a regular cooler without electricity can already handle much of that. If the freezer compartment were a little larger, this would be even better for long road trips.

Good Fridge, and Good Customer Service!
Very good product! I bought this to replace the cooler/ice-chest that came with the new (to us) trailer we recently bought. I was concerned about the size of the IceCo frig being too big for the existing coolers space, so I called IceCo and spoke with one of their customer service agents (Rain, I think) who answered some questions regarding exact size and if some of the protruding parts of the fridge could be removed, such as the handles and/or the corner reinforcements. The answers I received that yes, they could be removed if space required, allowed me to confidently order. Yes, I did have to remove the handles for the fridge to fit into my trailer’s cubby, and yes, it’s a tight fit, but it works! Freezes well, and looks great. Thanks, IceCo!

Great product! Great service! Great company!
Great product! Great service! Great company! Two of my trucker buddies recommended this cooler. I'm very happy they did. We run our coolers 24/7 when we're on the road and none of us have ever had alan issue. There's ample room in the cooler and it is nice having a freezer compartment as well. They are very quiet and very efficient. Customer service is fantastic. Friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. They stand behind their product.

Great unit
This fridge freezer is great, no issues when trying to connect to the Bluetooth app, appears to cool quickly in heat of the southeast. Large enough to hold plenty of food and drinks for a weekend trip, fairly light weight.

Is now my favorite fridge
I already own a VL60S and never had an issue that Is now being used for the past year as a freezer to freeze my wife's breast milk. So I got this apl35 to replace that because I needed a fridge for camping. So far I love it for how light weight it is and how fast it cools running on 12v by far my favorite fridge.

A great mini portable fridge well done
Great unit. Lot of space. Hi quality unit. Noise is acceptable and is not disturbing, but could be more silent. The fan make more noise than the compressor. Use it as a small fridge at home for 2 weeks now, and will carry it for next trip on the road.

Great, except for Canadian price.
So far so good! Good size to weight ratio. Fast, even and efficient cooling. Looks great. $$$ is my only complaint, especially for Canadian buyers (as usual).
