All kids occasionally space out, get sidetracked, run out of time, or explode in frustration--but some do it much more often than others. If you have a “smart but scattered” child, take heart. This encouraging guide is grounded in research on the crucial brain-based skills that 4- to 13-year-olds need to get organized, stay focused, and control their impulses and emotions. The expert authors guide you to identify your child's executive strengths and weaknesses, boost skills that are lacking, fix everyday routines that don't work, and reduce everyone's stress. Including new research, new and updated vignettes, and "A Good Place to Start" suggestions for each skill, the revised and updated second edition features a new chapter on technology and a greatly expanded school chapter. Helpful practical tools can be downloaded and printed. See also the authors' Smart but Scattered Teens , Smart but Scattered--and Stalled (with a focus on emerging adults), and The Smart but Scattered Guide to Success (with a focus on adults). Review: Umfangreich und nützlich - Liest sich fast wie ein Lexikon der möglichen Schwierigkeiten UND LÖSUNGEN mit ADHS Kindern. Wurde schon mehrfach nachgeschlagen. Review: Lots of great information, print is quite small - This is one of the most informative books about executive functioning I have read. I find the print very small however. It would be a much easier read of the print were a few sizes larger.

A Must-Have Resource for Parents and Pros!
As an Executive Functioning Coach, I am constantly looking for practical, science-backed tools, and this book is easily one of the best out there. It’s a complete game-changer for helping kids who struggle with organization, focus, and emotional control. The Pros Highly Practical: It doesn't just explain the "why" behind executive functioning struggles; it gives you actual strategies to fix them. Great Assessments: The questionnaires help you pinpoint exactly which skills (like working memory or task initiation) a child needs to work on most. Easy to Understand: Even though it’s based on deep research, it’s written in a way that’s super accessible for parents and educators. Empowering: It shifts the focus from "lazy" or "difficult" behavior to building missing skills. The Cons Information Heavy: It’s a lot to take in at once! I recommend reading the intro and then jumping straight to the chapters that apply to your specific situation rather than reading it cover-to-cover. Whether you’re a parent feeling overwhelmed or a professional looking for new coaching strategies, this book is an essential tool. It’s revolutionized the way I approach my coaching sessions!
