Schaum's Outline of Fluid Mechanics (Schaum's Outline Series)

This book practically saved my life. I had the misfortune of getting textbooks in these classes generally with poor examples and no homework questions answered. Finding myself in a bind for Shockwaves in Compressible Flow, I dust off my trusty Schaum's accepting the fact that it probably won't have such a complicated subject. I was wrong. In fact, the proofs give my textbook a run for their money, and the methods in the examples are the same but better documented. Plus I got 50 problems to practice, and I didn't have to hope I got it right! The answers were right there giving me instant feedback on my ability to do general problems similar to what will be on my exam. For the 20 bucks or whatever it costs, it is well worth it. I've already used this book for 3 classes, and have found it more useful than the near $500 I had to spend on the required texts. Find a prof that doesn't require homework from an expensive book, and pick this baby up. If you get in some technical bind that this book somehow can't help with, borrow a buddies text, then practice out of the Schaum's.

My daughter is in Civil Engineering at University of Michigan. She was struggling with her classes and this is a smart girl. This book has been amazing in breaking things down in simpler easier to digest explanations with many working examples. It was just what she needed to get her confidence back and start getting her 4.0s again. Brilliantly written!

the examples are great, but they follow the textbook i have to the letter for the most part. there are some new things, but i wish they would have provided original examples

Used this as a supplementary text to try and bring in an alternative perspective to the material for my Thermals & Fluids class. I didn't actually use it during the time I was taking the class but after I skimmed through the text and it had more in the way of content then my actual textbook for the course had. I would recommend this to people who either want it to help them when learning the material or for professionals who just need a casual reference text for when they are working.

I am using this in my Fluid Mechanics class as it goes so I have not gotten through all of this but for the amount that I have gotten through, I would say that this is not a bad buy. When comparing this to my Fluid Mechanics textbook, it seems that this takes all of the important info from textbook and leaves out any unnecessary details and then compile all of the important info (the stuff you may need to reference in the future). However, I have noticed some things in my textbook that I believe should be in this Outline but it is not terribly necessary for it to be in there. I have no time really to look at the problems so I can't say anything about those parts.

This a must for any serious student of fluid mechanics. The solved problems really help to get a real grasp of the subject matter, while enable the student to get ready on the fundamentals needed to tackle more profund challanges. I will recommend this book to anyone that seeks a complete understanding of how fluid behave under certain specified conditions.

Let me start off by saying the actual content is nearly faultless. The problem solving section is particularly of interest in this book. If you ever find yourself in need of a comprehensive and coherent textbook on fluid mechanics, this is the book for you. However that is only if you are studying fluid mechanics at university. Very good text book on fluid mechanics. It's well written for first year engineering students. Contains hundreds of examples and solved problems.

It's useful for a beginner's look but you're much better of getting a more detailed textbook.
