80050 Clear RTV Silicone Adhesive Sealant, 3 oz

Works as well as any other silicone adhesive, curing time is good and application is quick and mess free with application tip. There is a little bit of a smell so just cure it in a area of your home you don't visit often.

Crazy but we bought this to repair one of my daughter’s favorite squishy toys that kept leaking. I wasn’t able to find the exact same one to purchase so this was my solution. That’s to some research, I found that silicone adhesive can help repair the squishy toys. We did let it sit a few days to dry and so far so good, no more leaks!

Great product. The seller sent me the wrong item first but quickly corrected the error. So they get good marks for product and customer service.

I bought this because my supposedly stretch-self-fusing silicone tape wasn't fusing and I needed to glue the tape on/down. My online research suggested that the only thing that will glue silicone is silicone. The tape I was having trouble with was being used on a dishwasher rack repair to cover repairs done with uber goop. Taping over the uber goop repairs isn't necessary but provides some benefits. I first did this a few years ago and it worked real well but now I had some new spots to fix and a few of the old needed reinforcement. I had only a little bit of trouble with the tape the first go around but now half or more of the tape wraps weren't sticking even when redone with a little longer tape. I don't see how but the tape became less good over time. This silicone glue was very hard to use when rewrapping the loosened tape with glue on it for sticking. Covering the job with electrical or masking tape while it was drying didn't seem like it was gripping over the slippery surface (it wasn't). I expected it to fail just about everywhere I did this but to my surprise, it worked every time and the electrical and masking tape later slid right off. I've done at least 10 wash loads since then and all the tape is looking good and no glue is even visible. So this glue is indeed very good for gluing silicone (despite the extreme difficulty of the slipperyness). I notice others have criticized the shoddy caps on these tubes and caps are a pet peeve of mine too. When I have extra epoxy because I mixed too much, I often put some in the hollow tops and sides of shoddy caps which makes them less likely to crack. I also started keeping a small container of vaseline with my glues to use on the threads when closing some tubes to make a good seal - shoe goo definitely needs it. I'm going to add some to my silicone glue tube now and maybe even lower my review for this common manufacturer lack of integrity issue. Update: Prompted by me writing this review and reading a couple others, I took a look at the tube that I got and used a few weeks ago. The cap is indeed of the cheapest quality you will find. I see that I had filled in the top with silicone glue which may make it just a tiny bit stronger, but the sides are wafer thin (the chief problem) and there are only a couple turns of threads. I unscrewed it and could see the silicone would have quickly dried up had I left it like it was. I tried to clean the threads and applied vaseline around the threads and tightened it as much as I dared. Sometimes I reinforce caps with steel (or other) epoxy around the sides which usually makes a difference and I save good old caps. I realize Permatex doesn't make their own caps but Permatex is the one to blame. I knocked a star off my review but even two would have been fair.

I love this stuff. I do a lot of the repairs around our house by myself while my husband is at work. I use this for everything. It is so effective. I love the fact that it doesn’t get really hard in the tube like other glues. Other glues I buy you can only use them once or twice and then you go to get them and they’ve been exposed to air and they are no longer usable This one is great. I could have it in my cabinet for six months and it still comes out of the tube. I’ve used it to glue things and to seal things. I would just recommend that you plan to let it dry for a couple of days if you’re going to use it as an adhesive because it takes a while to dry.

Why do I buy Permatex Clear RTV Adhesive/sealant? The only reason is that it comes in smaller handier tubes. Here is my reasoning... "RTV" stands for "Room Temperature Vulcanizing". People don't realize it, but all silicone adhesive/sealants that you purchase at hardware and auto parts stores are "RTV's", no matter if they say it on the label or not. (There are also specialized curing silicone's, such as the ones used in hobby and manufacturing mold making, but a two part mixable silicone is typically used rather than RTV.) Silicone Sealant is the best sealant available for most applications. It is far more resistant to drying out and cracking than latex based sealants, is more waterproof, and is more permanent. I personally like it because it doesn't seem to attract dust and dirt as much as latex sealants. When you absolutely need a waterproof seal (boats, engine cooling systems, etc.) you use silicone. Disadvantages to silicone is it has a very strong vinegar smell while curing, it is not water soluble so it's harder to clean up, and paint doesn't stick to it as well as latex. If you are sealing around something that doesn't see a lot of heat extremes and moisture, and/or needs to be painted, you may prefer latex. Because it isn't very paint-able, silicone is available in several colors. Silicone can have different formulations that change it's characteristics slightly. All silicone's are highly waterproof, but some formulations are even better for 100% water immersion (like on a boat hull). Some have a wider temperature range. Some dry slightly faster, etc. Permatex makes other more specialized formulations which are top notch (mostly for automotive applications), but this particular package is just great plain old clear silicone sealant. Which is better for emergencies, latex or silicone? Let's say your working in a restaurant, and you have a customer restroom sink bowl start leaking that stays wet almost 24/7. You can't close the bathroom for an extended period of time because of constant use. Do you use latex or silicone? I have been in this situation and at first chose latex because of its faster drying time. The problem was, because latex is water soluble and it was exposed to dampness constantly, it never dried, and eventually just washed off. When I switched to silicone, it was waterproof even when not fully cured. Although exposed to the damp environment it did eventually cure, all the while stopping the leak. So would I choose Permatex Clear RTV adhesive/sealant over other brands of plain clear silicone? Probably not, but it does come in that nice conveniently small tube and it is available just about everywhere. Recommended

It would be nice if it came with a scrapper to clean the nozzle for future use.
