Product packaging arrived in perfect condition. Bought at the start of 2025, the product has an expiration of 2054. I made the package per the instructions by adding boiling water, letting it sit for 5 mins, stir and then let sit another 4 minutes. The Chili Mac came out fairly chewy, or very al dente, which is what I love. The consistency is the best part. Flavor is pretty good and tasted fresh enough, but it was a touch too sweet. I like my savory food to be savory, not sweet. Maybe 1/4-1/2 teaspoon too much sugar. This was purchased for a go-bag. The price is a little high, but the shelf life is amazing, so in comparison to other go-bag food, the Chili Mac definitely has its place. Having to add water is a bit of a drawback on the go, especially because the instructions want hot water, but it only requires 1 1/2 cup and MRE heaters are pretty good. I did not try adding room temperature water and doubling the time it sits.

Not one of Mountain House's best entrees (pretty sure the beef stew or stroganoff are the best). It is just too mild for me.

I've replaced my gov issued MRE's with these for my line gears for firefighting campaigns. Although it doesn't have all the other good stuff in an MRE like desserts and powdered drinks but it's very delicious for freeze dried food. And really, when you're on the fire line all you need is high calories and water. You don't need sugar.
