STEM Toys for Ages 8-13, Remote Control Model Car Building Science Kits

9-year-old spent several hours putting this together. Instructions were easy enough to follow so that he never once had to ask for help. In the end. He has a functioning car that lights up and follows the directional prompts of the remote. Pretty cool and worth the money.

I am a special education teacher at the junior high level, and I use these kits as reinforcers in my classroom. They work really well to keep students engaged and give them something motivating to work toward. The projects are positive, hands on, and help keep them productively busy. They are also fairly easy to build as long as students follow the instructions carefully. Overall, this has been a great classroom resource and my students really enjoy earning the chance to build them.

My 10 year old got this for Christmas yesterday, and he is thrilled with it! He immediately put it together with no assistance, and only had one small bit of damage to a front fender, which did not effect the function. (He did the damage popping the piece out of the sheet, it was intact when it arrived.) He managed to do all the wiring and assembly himself, and was driving it around the house successfully by dinner time! He said that "I almost asked dad for some help doing the heat shrinking part, but he told me where a lighter was and I was able to do it with no trouble on my own. This is the best STEM kit I have done in a while!" (He is a cub scout and has been trained to use knives, lighters etc. safely and correctly from a young age. You might decide if your kid needs help with that part.) I am considering keeping this on my list of potential birthday gifts to his buddies who are science/tech minded!

This was the almost perfect gift for my son who just turned 9 who is into building/ creating things! The fact that he had to plug the electronics together and build the car itself was great! There was one small wiring part that i needed to do, but he did the rest. It drives surprisingly well, and i look forward to getting other versions of this. Cons for this one i would say that, where the 'front' connects to the 'back' is a little weak so i had to help support it when he was screwing that section together. Also after you attach the 'person' you are supposed to flip it upside down to screw in the piece that holds the batteries from falling out. Again i had to support that so the character wouldnt break. I would have much rather seen just a battery cover like you see on your remote, as you will have to un screw this last piece everytime you need to change batteries.

Gave as a gift to my 8-year-old nephew and he absolutely loved building it. Definitely recommend for kids who love building things and doing STEM projects. He did need a little help from his mom and dad, but it was a fun experience for all (especially considering both his parents are mechanical engineers)

This was a great project with my son. Unfortunately the switch that came with it was obviously broken before we got it out of the package. We were still able to drive the car by bypassing the switch and just twisting the wires together. Glad we got it but my son was pretty disappointed until I figured out how to bypass it.
