A little pricey, but does provide big quality sound!!!!! Updated Review
Not really sure what I expected, but the sound is VERY good from such a small form factor. If you have a need for portable Music, then I would say this item fits the bill. Iphone and Ipad Touch both fit in it nicely and it is small enough to be easily carried anywhere and provides a level of protection. 4 Stars! Follow-up review. I originally gave this four stars, but after "trying" to use it for a couple of weeks I had an issue. Several times when I wanted to listen to the speakers the unit would not turn on. I thought at first I had a bad battery that would not hold a charge. I contacted iMainGo and I received a very prompt reply from iMainGo support, but unfornately, I was told the product was working as designed. It seems they expect the battery to lose a charge in 2-3 days, even if you are not using the speakers. So, kinda disappointed at this point that I have to remember to keep it charged every day or so.....since this is type of product is typically used spontaneously. Especially for a battery that works for 10-12 hours fully charged, but if you don't keep it on the charger, it won't be ready when you need it. Despite the great sound in such a small package, the battery issue causes me to rate it lower than I would have. UPDATE: The customer support at Portable Sound got in touch with me about my issues. They offered to not only replace my unit and provide return postage for the defective unit, they also provided a bonus for the trouble I had with this product. It seems they have corrected the issue by providing a master switch. This will prolong battery stand by life. In my opinion, this will make this an exceptional unit. This type of product has to be available for spontaneous type use. Being able to have hours of operation(~12 hours on a charge) is great, but only if it can retain that charge. This master on/off seems to make that a reality. While I have not had the unit long enough to verify this solution, I am confident. I wanted to raise the Rating in line with the customer service and not impact people thinking of purchasing this unit. ****Can verify that the new master switch allows a charge to last for at least two weeks and still provide hours of operation. ***** This is the kind of customer service that makes me want to do business with a company!!!!

I ordered this several years ago and it still plays really well. I discovered it at a Farmer's market where one of the vendors was playing it while selling his wares and I was amazed at the sound coming from this little player. He told me it had great recharge life and produced this fantastic sound without any kind of mini sub-woofer. It didn't have the usual tinniness I usually here with small portable speakers. Well I had to have one and ordered it here. While I do have to have to say I still like it's sound over other mini players along with it's portability while offering great protection for my I pod classic, I was and still am disappointed by some it's build quality and how my I pod fit in the case. After the first year the cloth/silken hinge of the device started to fray. I was concerned about how that would hold up when I first got it and my first impression was correct. It isn't very durable with the two halves hanging on to each other by dear life. The power switch also had a cheap feel to it and didn't seem to slide fully to the on position, though it always turned on. I guess the price along with the sound, portability and Ipod protection is the reason I kept it. I'm looking for alternatives now since it won't hold together much longer. Hopefully I can find something of better durability that I don't have to baby.

Great customer support - and great sound, too
Amazon fulfilled my order quickly as usual, so not longer after ordering this much-anticipated iMainGo X player, I was happily opening the package and charging up the battery. Unfortunately, in my enthusiasm and haste I didn't read the instructions carefully enough. Yes, I removed the plastic strip covering the battery terminals. But no, I failed to notice that there's also a little switch next to the battery compartment that you have to turn on before you can play the unit. Yet despite my operator-error, both Amazon and iMainGo were fabulous in providing me excellent support. Amazon sent out an exchange unit without question, again speedily. And when I clicked on the support link on iMainGo's website, I found that I was rapidly engaged in helpful email interaction with Bob Roach, who handles customer support for iMainGo. Bob sent me two more units to try, both of which he had tested out before sending. When I encountered the same problem with the first of those two units, I emailed Bob again - at which point he asked me a few more detailed questions, and figured out my bonehead error regarding the tiny switch. In my defense I'll say it is hard to see without my reading glasses... ah, the perils of age. And yes, the special insert next to the battery compartment does tell you to flip the switch - in step 3. So, just take your time in unwrapping and setting up your unit, and you'll be fine. Hopefully my experience will serve as a cautionary tale to RTFM! Now all the extra units are returned, I had a chance a few days ago to take this puppy on the road for a quick 2-day trip to Boston. It sounds great! Just like the other reviews say. I'm an audiophile with great sound equipment at home, so my ears are more sensitive than some at noting the sound quality. The iMainGo X does not have as much low-end performance as my larger (and more expensive) Logitech PureFi Anywhere, but it's way smaller. The Logitech only makes sense to take along on longer trips when I check a bag - the iMainGo is perfect to pop in my computer bag and take even on short trips. Above that bottom octave, the flatness and tonal balance of the sound is comparable to the Logitech, with no tendency for vocal "honking" that smaller units or clock-radio players often exhibit. Highly recommend. And thanks again for the great service, Bob!

Great device -- poor battery design
I will start by saying that the iMainGoX is a "great idea" that performs well -- very easy to use, with decent volume and sound quality for such a small device. My only complaint is with the design of the battery. I purchased the iMainGoX, and after a very short period of "testing," I discovered that the battery would not hold a charge properly. I read the instructions carefully, and charged the device properly, but to no avail. For example, I charged it overnight, and without using it all, it would be completely dead again within 24-48 hours -- powered "off" and just sitting on the table. I was careful to manually power down the iPod, and even tried removing the iPod from the iMainGo carrier, but is still wouldn't hold a charge. I thought I had a defective battery, wrote a letter to Amazon customer care, and they promptly exchanged my device for a brand new unit. So I opened up "unit #2" and was very surprised to see that the new device was a different configuration from the first one. Specifically, there is a new "master power switch" on unit #2 which wasn't present on the first unit that I received (I carefully compared them side-by-side). In short, the addition of the master power switch seems to have (sort of) solved the battery problem. If I turn the interior Master Switch "off," the battery doesn't lose its charge when the unit is not in use. If I leave the interior Master switch "on," the battery will quickly discharge (within 24-36 hours) even when the unit itself is powered off (via the exterior switch) and not in use. The "problem" with all this is that you MUST remember to unzip the case and fumble for that teeny-tiny master power switch on the inside, every time you turn the device on or off. If you forget, the battery will quickly discharge as before. IMHO, this is an awkward solution to a poor engineering design. I applaud the iMainGo companies' decision to upgrade to lithium-ion batteries, but I feel it should be possible to configure a simple on/off switch, accessible from the case exterior, that won't require the user to unzip the device, and operate two different power switches in order to preserve the battery. In parallel with my "testing," I was exchanging emails with the customer service guy (possibly the company owner?) at iMainGo ([email protected]). Bob was always very polite, and prompt with his one-line replies to my notes, but he never actually "answered" any of my very specific questions about the device. He is clearly aware of the awkward performance characteristic associated with the iMainGo X, hence the modified design with the "band-aid" master switch. Bottom Line: It's a great device -- I'm definitely going to keep it. But I anticipate there will be times when I will "forget" to operate that little interior switch, and will lose the battery. Be sure to purchase the "second generation" device with the master switch, and be sure to keep the electrical charger cable nearby!

Great sound!
For such a small external speaker, the sound is awesome. Really protects the iPod/iPhone and would be awesome for around the pool, etc. It's not waterproof, but I believe it's splashproof (?). Only complaint... if you don't turn off the internal power switch, the battery dies quickly. Now that I know, no problem. HIGHLY recommended.

Great sound. Battery blew out after 8 months
I am a massage therapist and use this to play music while I work where there is no power readily accessible. I started using it in November of 2012. The first three months I used it four hours a week. Starting in February of this year that increased to twelve hours a week at low volume. The sound quality is great for the size and the price. No complaints about that. Around late September or early October of this year, while giving a massage there was a popping noise and the music stopped. Later, I fiddled with it and it started playing again though my iPod took a couple hours to function right again. After that, I would plug it in if it stopped when I could and it would work. In November of this year that didn't even work. With moderate light use and a lot of coddling, I am not happy. I need to go to an electronics store to see if there is a replacement battery available as the battery is not something I am familiar with. Bummer. If I get a reasonably priced replacement battery and it works again, I may increase the rating.

HELP!!!
I went into my local coffee shop to try out these speakers. I purchased them specifically because they had a headphone jack so I could cut out the sound from the speaker while I watched and listened to one of the British TV mystery series I like so much via my tablet and Netflix. I usually have to up the sound in order to understand some of the words. English is a foreign language when it emanates from England; it should be subtitled. But I digress. These speakers did a great job. I could understand what was spoken. I then went to YouTube to watch some West Coast Swing videos. I put up the sound a bit more. The next thing I knew one of the waitresses was asking me to turn down the sound. What? Well, if nothing else, this verified the quality of the speaker. : The problem: I was not aware of it but inserting the headphone jack did NOT cut off the sound from the IMainGo X! It continued to boom out the music while at the same time I was listening to the music through my headphones. I tried changing wires, etc., etc., but simply could not get the IMainGo X to stop transmitting the sound. I used the central jack marked #2; when I switched the the jack on the left marked #1 I got nothing from the speaker at all. Has any other reviewer had this problem? Have I made a mistake? I certainly hope so. I think this is a terrific product, as per other reviews, but I will have to return it if it is a generic product defect. I would appreciate any assistance. Thank you.

ipod touch speaker
this is a great product i am very impressed by the volume this system has and by the durability of the case it has. i am also amazed by the clarity of the speakers when it is turned up to its max i would have no problem buying another in the future. if i would ever really even need to. it would make a wonderful gift for anyone. i would highly advise in the purchase of one, if you are interested in a great speaker system and hard case for your apple ipod touch. the battery life so far has been great. i think the only thing i may ever have to replace is the battery, and that is just a normal thing for rechargable battery to be replaced once in a while. a replacement battery is around 20 dollars i believe. also the case is really not the large or heavy.
