Approaches perfection.
TL;DR: Best 3.5" enclosure I could find for any price. Buy it now.I just got this today, so my experience with it is limited so far. But it's everything i was dreaming of when I ordered it. Here are some important details:Pros:Size: It's just big enough to fit your standard 3.5" HDD. Not enough room for the drive to wiggle around in there, but not so tight you've gotta force it.Cooling. Unlike many, this is a solid aluminum (or some kind of metal) case, so it dissipates heat really well. It's been transferring files constantly for 4 straight hours right now, and is only slightly warm. For a case with no fan, that's spectacular.Quality: The thing is solid. The ends are plastic, but the case itself is just a single piece of metal that's not going anywhere. The connections seem super secure both inside and out. No exposed wires or anything. The drive fits securely, but also it has holes to bolt the drive to the enclosure so you don't have to worry about it banging around in there. The power switch seems solid, unlike many enclosures I've had before. The connector is USB 3.0 B, which I'd never seen before. It apparently carries higher amounts of power along with the high speed data. The cable it comes with is right for it, but won't be compatible with anything else I personally own, but any standard printer cable will give you USB 2.0 capability with it in case you lose the one it comes with.Cons: The only real con so far is that the screws to remove the front cover to put the drive in are a bit small. Even the small screwdriver I used stripped one of the 2 screws a little bit, so watch for that.Other notes: It's got a dim little LED that's green for on, and flashes red and yellow for activity. The dimness is perfect for me, but if you want to be able to see it in bright areas, it's not great. It says it can use drives up to 8 TBs. I can vouch for up to 3 TB.It works with both NTFS (Windows) and HFS (Mac) file systems without any drivers (some other enclosures require a driver for one or the other).

Using with PS4 and a Mac
I purchased this for use with a Macbook. I installed a 6TB name brand hard drive, which you will need a small electronics screwdriver to do. I plugged everything in, formatted the drive for Mac, and proceeded to initiate a backup using the native Time Machine program. The drive ejected itself unsafely before completing and caused an error. I deleted the partial information and reinitiated the backup. The second time it completed without issue. I'm hopeful the first error was an anomaly, and will update my review if I experience any other problems.UPDATE: My PS4 crashed and I needed to use a backup. My old backup drive was an HP USB 2.0 2TB drive. After taking 26 hours to restore my 1.5TB of data I decided to use my 6TB drive as my gaming drive (backups for system software, game saves, media like videos and screen shots). This drive with its USB 3.0 interface is much faster. It works somewhat well in that application, but it does automatically sleep itself so you have to either unplug then plug in the USB cord or use the power switch on the back and turn the drive off then back on for the PS4 to recognize it. That's an annoyance but not a deal breaker for me as I don't use the drive every time I use the PS4 and it's not hard to hit the switch when I need to backup.I'm ordering another Mediasonic drive enclosure for a 4TB drive to use with my Macbook for backups.UPDATE 2: I don't know why the drive initially turned itself off when using it with the PS4. I'm finding now that it doesn't turn itself off at all (it may sleep when not in use, but it wakes itself back up when I tell it to do something without cycling the power or unplugging/replugging.) I'm giving it a full 5 stars as a result. It works great for both my PS4 and my Macbook.

Case functions very well.
Update Review 1/15/20:Recently purchased a second identical case for another 4 TB external WD HDD as backup drive for another PC after excellent service from the first case which is still working well. Although I initially had some concerns about heat loss from this fan-free design; I have found that the enclosed HDD never reached above 45C and the HDD is still healthy so I am uprating from four to five stars. My only CON is now the instability of the case when attempting to use the case in an upright position, so I've attached four rubber feet to the large, flat side of the case and use it laying on its side. Much more stable but also less likely to any vibration using the rubber feet in each corner.Initial Review:First Day installed and Works well for new backup WD Black 4TB HDD.Pros:1. Easy to install drive. Appearance of case is nice. Black aluminum covered plastic.2. Connects well to USB 3.0 running on Win10. No problems initializing and formatting the new HDD using Win10 Disc management program.3. Functions well on 4 hour complete PC system backup / verify running Acronis TrueImage. Temp of drive started at 39C. gradually rose to 44C.4. HDD activity light nice and visible.5. Very convenient size for backup drive; for storage in desk, cabinet when not in use.6. Have seen no disconnection problems reported by other reviewers.7. USB cord supplied is approx 2 feet and is adequate for my use.Cons:1. Drive has now been on 16 hours with last hour running file optimization program and HDD temp is up to 45C. Would prefer if temp stayed in the 35C to 40C range. I may try drilling holes in case to improve heat dissipation. May be able to improve airflow placing unit in front or top of PC tower intake fans. For comparison, WD Black 2TB inside tower case is only running at 32C after extended use.2. The AC converter power cord is about 4 feet and is too short for good placement of the case. Would prefer 5 or 6 feet like I have on older USB drives from Western Digital.3. Case will stand vertically, but without stabilizing feet or a stand is easy to tip over.Because of lack of heat dissipation and short power cord, I downrated to 4 stars.
