Review: Great jumping off point for a strictly human-monster season - SPOILERS AHEAD!! My biggest complaint for this seasons opener is actually the biggest improvement the show has made: it didn't have as much crammed in as I'm used to getting with AHS. Usually, they just relelentlessly assault the audience with an, at times, overwhelming amount of characters and sublots. For once, the set up has been pretty streamlined and stripped down. It's sparse and practically minimalism compared to previous AHS set ups. Again, I know I'm supposed praise the tight focus as an improvement, but I don't watch AHS because it follows the traditional dos and donts of successful TV formulas. I always appreciated that it deviated from that and and wasn't afraid be over the top or sloppy. It was so hungry to please. Not to say I wasn't pleased. Their was plenty of what I came for on displayed. It definitely wasn't subtle, it's was highly stylized, the homages were aplenty, and the humor was spot on! There were some serious nuggets of comedy gold in some of that dialogue. Again, the cast seemed small for AHS, but so far it's quality over quantity. Sarah Paulson starts off at 11 with the paranoid hysteria and her resourceful use of Rose just whets my appetite to see her hopefully fight back more this upcoming season. Seeing her Audrey last season transform into such a survivor was one of season 6's highlights. Billie Lourd's off-puttingly ANTIFAesque, evil babysitter has officially made me forget my Chanel No 3 crush. She and Evans Peters' White Troll make for a very unsettling pair of young villains and it'll be interesting how that gets developed. So a very entertaining set up (though alittle light compared to the big AHS helpings I'm used to) with the disturbing scenes (that poor kid getting exposed to snuff videos on the dark web, the home invasion stuff) mixing well with some really pointed comedy ("what if I get pregnant now, where will I get an abortion!"). It successfully accomplishes what a first episode should--it made me anxious for the next episode. Review: Quite possibly the best season of AHS - After watching the first four episodes, I think it's safe to say this has quickly become the best season of American Horror Story yet. The story is so revealing of the social issues plaguing the country, and the writers did a great job playing devil's advocate in portraying the whole picture, instead of presenting bias towards one side or another. The pace of the storytelling is perfect, with the ideal amount of tension, plot revelations, twists, and dialogue. The characters are extremely dynamic and intriguing, meaning all aspects of the story (between plot and character development) have much to reveal, which is great that they're able to maintain such a tempo. The writing offers both memorable and humorous one liners as well as provocative, sinister monologues, and it's portrayed in a way so as to not interfere with the overall somber and dark tone of the show. The set and costume designs are equally immaculate, contributing immensely to the show's more suspenseful scenes. So far, there's been a total departure from supernatural elements that were central to the stories of previous seasons, with preference for a more grounded setting focusing on the human psyche. Though pyschology's always played a role in AHS, I think this time they've really done a great job driving it home by letting the events unfold at the hands of regular people instead of spirits, witches and vampires. If you want something that'll get you thinking and chill you to the bone, don't hesitate to get this!!

Must watch series!
American Horror Story continues to be a creative and new experience every season! Sometimes it may fall short of your expectations or might not be what you want it to become. But either way the show continues to be successful, all while entertaining its audience. The show elicits strong performances by multiple actors and lets those who decide to continue onto the next season of this anthology series to embody new roles. I'm very excited to see how this season goes with the "Cult" theme! The series seems to be taking a new approach as we saw last season and this may yet again be a new one. Interesting storylines, terrific characters, and always a great cast. American Horror Story is a must watch for anyone into strange/intriguing anthology series.

Phenomenal Talent.I hope more seasons are to follow.
I read a lot of the 1 star reviews. Not really sure why this show ever rated any lower than a 5 but what evs. I am absoluley in love with the show, every season, every episode. I find it so incredibly colorful. I am not a political person by any stretch of the imagination and one of my favorite things about the show was the ispiration from real life that it has pulled but made it so fictional at the same time. This new seaon..WHAT A BOOM! right out of the gate it punches you in the face with current events, there is no mystery where the writers are pulling from, nothing to research which in a sense is a change. But because there is no mystery in this one season so far it ends up being far more mysterious. I love it. I feel as though they took modern news events, recent movie plots, and tied them all up in a nice organized honest package. GREAT JOB! My only gripe is I have noticed a few of the portrayal of the characters seem sub - par in compare to previous seasons. Not by all the actors just by a few of them. I think perhaps some of the cast could benefit from stepping back from the scripts and watching the movie in their minds eye before delivering their lines. Normally I wouldn't mention it however I have noticed when I show is about to stop airing , i.e the last announced or unannounced, things like that begin happening in the acting and or the script. I certainly hope this will not be the case as I thoroughly enjoy the series and would absolutely see continued for decades.

A Very Political Season
For you American Horror Story fans, you know that each season has its own theme. This one is VERY political. Now, I'll let you make your own conclusions, and the series of course doesn't name drop, but most of us can put two and two together. The series is about a Presidential election where "side one" calls for the hatred, locking-up, destruction of anybody they do not consider a "true blooded american," including inciting extreme violence against women and taking away all rights of women. This "side one" calls for men to be men (which translates into them toting around guns and murdering anybody they don't like on sight - and those "they don't like" means any non-white gun-toting person). This "side one" encourages white males to be true Americans and abuse anybody who doesn't fall in line, touching on subjects such as a lesbian couple who are also main characters in the story and a young girl who had required an abortion. On "side two" you have more of a peaceful approach, a love everybody no matter their differences style. This is the side which the series portrays as most women, non-straight couples/singles, hard-working class, etc watching the election results anxiously for. Of course, in the series, "side one" wins (because you wouldn't have a very good series if the good guys won in the first episode!) This series then follows several main characters as it spirals into madness. You have people who think that they should bomb women's health clinics, a man who wants to force his own sister into sexual submission, groups of crazed gun-toting individuals who believe they shall cleanse the world through mass murder, and a lesbian woman (she's important) who starts to go crazy out of fear and anxiety at how the world has turned so hateful and harassing towards them, constantly threatening them for being gay, etc. It follows the descent into madness for BOTH sides (those who go mad with power and those who go mad from fear of constant abuse and the threat of being murdered). It has a wee bit twist of an ending which highly amused me. I don't want to spoil it but let's just say a good chunk of you won't see it coming. This is a good season for those who enjoy politics-based movies and how it affects people from all walks of life.

Shocking to the senses!
It's strange but it really grows on you. The first time I watched it clear through I wasn't too sure whether I liked it or not, but by the end I wanted to see it again to be sure. (I have all 8 and I watched all 8 twice) By the second time through it made so much more sense, I was 'calmer' about it, and I seen and understood a lot of things I just didn't quite 'get' the 1st time around. The most horrifying thing I seen was the person putting on the Trump mask at the beginning of every show-NOTHING was worse than that. Now I love the show. Evan Peters is GREAT at capturing a character's soul and making it his own-he should win every award there is. The whole show is like Roanoke #6 in a way at how the whole thing darts off in an entirely different direction than the other 6 do-but hang in there. Give it a chance. Watch it all the way through-twice. You'll see-and hear-what I mean. There's a lot going on. Little complications building on top of each other. If you miss just one, then the whole things kind of off. After twice, it makes all the sense in the world now to me. But even now, NOTHING is worse than that Trump mask. (In all 8 shows, NOTHING was as bad as that.) Fire

Steadily declining since season 3...
After season 4 the whole series starts to go to pot. This one isn't much better than the last two - Roanoke being the worst ever, with this one being worse worse than Hotel (Lady Gaga season 5), and only a hair-breadth improved from Roanoke. *** SPOILER ALERT *** This season focuses on the antics of a criminally insane, charismatic, narcissistic, sociopath (who we later find out is not actually a sociopath at all just an extremely codependent personality type who amazingly has all the charisma of a narcissist - never mind how impossible this would be without a fragmented identity), who builds a loyal following of throat slitting followers who help get him elected to a city council seat. Wow - such high aspirations, like anybody even wants to be on the city council. He could probably have just asked to be on it and they'd say welcome aboard, the job sucks. Anyway, by the time our very-unlikable heroine gives her villainous protagonist his comeuppance the waves of ambivalence will have lulled you to deep deep sleep. It was so anti-climatic, I was asking, "Is this really the end? Are you kidding me?" No fault of Sarah Paulson the writing was just bad. And the plot. And the over abundance of stabbing, slashing, bleeding, and other gruesome grind house style effects. If you're looking for Asylum level entertainment, look elsewhere; this old gray mare just ain't what it used to be.

The new season is off to a great start though I liked the first episode much better ...
The new season is off to a great start though I liked the first episode much better than the second one. It's almost as if the writers have mixed in every popular B horror movies into the plot and those old movies were very political in nature while expressing the political fears and concerns of their time. There are themes of killer clowns, biological terrorism, charismatic madmen, gaslighting, and characters with names such as "Winter", "Ivy", and "Meadow" as if they are a throw back to The Wicker Man. Unlike haunted houses, possession, witchcraft, anomalies, addictive vampirism, and blood sacrificing colonists; the characters in this season could be any one of us. We are finally confronted with the real horrors of what humans are capable of committing against other humans. We cannot blame the "others", we cannot hide behind the supernatural, we cannot pretend such actions are an anomaly. Instead, we are given a mirror to look within ourselves and from what I've read, there are some people who appear not quite ready to face the image reflecting back upon them.
