I have been using the Hollyland Lark M2S for several months now, and it has easily become one of my favorite pieces of recording gear. It has held up really well with regular use, and I have never had a reason to question its reliability.One of the biggest reasons I chose this microphone was the size. The transmitters are incredibly small and discreet, which makes them much less noticeable on camera. I also really like that I do not have to mess with separate magnetic clips. There is nothing extra to keep track of or accidentally lose, which has been a nice change from other wireless mic systems I have used.Another feature that has made this kit so useful is the included USB C and Lightning receivers. I record with different devices depending on the situation, so being able to switch between them without buying extra accessories has been a huge convenience.The sound quality has also impressed me. Voices come through clean and clear, and I think the audio quality is excellent for this price range. It has been more than good enough for my content, and I have been consistently happy with the results.After several months of use, I have no regrets buying this system. It has been dependable, easy to use, and produces great audio. Based on this experience, I would absolutely buy Hollyland gear again in the future.

These mics are AMAZING.I purchased these a while back, looking for something to go with the Insta 360 Pro camera and these are just so good. They are TINY. they clip right on your shirt or hat and from about 6 feet away, you can't even tell you have it on.I have tested these out in multiple settings, and the voice quality is unmatched. Very clear, eliminates background noise, very clean sound overall. I have used them for blogging and mainly videos in loud spaces like grocery stores, farmers markets, etc. They come in a small case that resembles an Airpod case and they charge very quickly. Within an hour or so for full charge.The volume control is easy to manipulate and the functionality of the mics are better than DJI. They connect instantly and I haven't had an issue with losing connection like some of the other brands I have tried. They do come with the wind muffs work very well but I don't use them often.Overall a great pick for functionality and something very low profile.

I am a professional video creator, and I often use traditional lavaliere-style clip-on microphones on projects. For quite a while, I have been examining various wireless microphone packs, such as those made by DJI, Rode, Godox, and many others, because the convenience they could offer for projects was highly enticing. However, I have never pulled the trigger on one because in all the videos I have watched that use them, they all seemed to have the same shortcomings. The sound was thin and hollow, the mics were obnoxiously big, and the branding was far too overt for my taste. So when I came across these, I thought they would be worth a try, as at the very minimum, their design addressed my two visual and aesthetic concerns. For the relatively low price, I figured that even if the sound wasn't great, it would still be a worthwhile purchase because the sound would likely be usable for most purposes and could always be enhanced in post-production to bring it closer to what I typically look for. And so, I pulled the trigger. And I was impressed almost immediately.To give them a test that aligned with one of my most common use cases, I used them while conducting an interview. Since this was a paid project, I wasn't going to trust them immediately, so I went ahead and also recorded the interview using a boom microphone—a Sennheiser MKH416. This took place in a relatively large indoor space, specifically an indoor pickleball facility. I put M2S mics on the interviewee and myself. Using the receiver in stereo mode, I was able to run each mic to its own channel on my MixPre-3 recorder using a TRS to dual XLR cable. This ultimately gave me three channels to listen to in post: my $1000 shotgun mic and two channels of M2S audio. I was shocked, pleased, and more than a bit surprised to find that in this particular use case, the best audio of the mix came from the M2S.My interviewee was new to being on video. He was fidgety and moved around quite a bit, resulting in significant off-axis pickup from the shotgun mic. And while the space was very open, the metal walls and concrete floors resulted in a bit of echo and some slight comb filtering from the boom mic. But the sound from the M2S was constant and clear and even with the noise cancelation turned off, their was almost no echo or reverb picked up by the mics. And, to my further chagrin, the sound wasn't at all hollow or thin. It was full-bodied, with a nice low end and a clear top end. With just a slight enhancement, the audio was more than usable — it was pretty good. And while I could have probably used the audio from the boom mic on this project if I had to, it was a huge time saver to work with the audio tracks from the M2S instead.Do I expect these inexpensive microphones to outshine a pro-level boom mic on every project and in every scenario...absolutely not. However, their quality, combined with their ease of use and discreet size, impressed me enough that I have already purchased a second set, allowing me to have a set ready to go in each of my video production kits. They will not be my go to for every shoot, but they have proved their worth to me, and I can see them being a very useful tool on many projects to come.

I’ve been very impressed with the Hollyland LARK M2S Ultimate Combo. The build quality is excellent, and for the most part, I’m very pleased with how the microphone sounds.The system is also very easy to use, which I really appreciate. Setup is straightforward, and it doesn’t feel overly complicated or intimidating, even when you just want to get everything connected quickly and start recording.The audio comes through clear and clean in most situations, and the system itself feels very well made. It has been a great option for recording, especially when I want something compact and convenient without sacrificing sound quality.That said, I have experienced a couple of issues.Every so often, I notice a strange reverberation or slightly echo-like quality in the audio. It doesn’t happen constantly, but it is noticeable when it does occur.The biggest issue I had was with the original 3.5mm TRS-to-TRS cable included with the kit. Not long after I started using it, I began getting a constant hissing or white-noise sound whenever the microphone was connected through that cable. At first, I was concerned there might be an issue with the microphone system itself.However, I purchased a Hollyland 3.5mm TRS-to-TRS cable separately, and that immediately solved the problem. With the replacement cable, the audio quality was significantly better and the constant hissing disappeared. Because of that, it seems the issue was with the cable included in my particular set rather than the microphone itself.I do wish the original cable had held up better, especially considering the quality of the rest of the system. Having to purchase a replacement cable so soon after buying the kit was disappointing.Aside from the cable issue and occasional reverberation, I’m genuinely happy with the LARK M2S. It sounds very good, feels high quality, and its ease of use makes it especially convenient for regular recording.I’m pleased with my purchase and would still recommend it, but I would keep an eye on the included 3.5mm cable if you begin hearing persistent hiss or white noise.

I’ve been using the Hollyland system for about a year now, and honestly, it’s one of the best microphones in this category. At this point, I’m still surprised people still use wired lav systems with bodypack transmitters. I understand that for broadcast you need maximum reliability and range, but for fast-paced videography, especially weddings, compact wireless systems like these are just the best solution.Hollyland did a great job overall. The design is clean, minimal, and much more discreet on people. That really matters during events like weddings where you don’t want bulky gear to stand out on camera.That said, Hollyland is missing one important thing — silicone covers for different clothing colors. This becomes especially noticeable at weddings. For example, when the bride is wearing a white dress and you clip a black mic on it, it stands out immediately. Having white or skin-tone silicone covers would make a huge difference in how clean everything looks on camera. I really hope Hollyland adds that in the future.Then I decided to try the SmallRig S70. I’ll be honest — I got influenced by the marketing, especially the silicone covers they showed. I expected those to be included in the box at this price point, but they weren’t. That was disappointing, because that feature was one of the main reasons I bought it.In terms of design, SmallRig looks more bulky and noticeable compared to Hollyland. Hollyland definitely feels more refined and less distracting visually.Now, real-world performance.I did have one stressful moment with Hollyland — during a wedding, I mic’d the groom while I was in another room, and once he walked away, the signal dropped. Luckily, I had backup audio, so I was able to save the situation. That experience taught me to always record redundancy.But in general, Hollyland behaves more predictably in real use.With SmallRig, my first impression was actually very positive. I tested it at home, and when the signal dropped, it would reconnect automatically. On my first shoot, it worked exactly like that, which gave me confidence.However, on the next wedding, things changed. The groom was only about 15 meters away (around 50 feet), outdoors, with no obstacles at all — and the signal just dropped. I kept waiting for it to reconnect when he got closer during the ceremony procession, but it never did. I had to step in during the ceremony, remove the mic, reset it in the case, and attach it again. That’s definitely not something you want to deal with in a live situation.Another issue is the sleep mode behavior. When the camera goes to sleep, the microphones also go to sleep. When the camera turns back on, they’re supposed to reconnect automatically — but that doesn’t always happen. Because of this, I now always record backup audio no matter what system I use.One feature I really like on the SmallRig is the ability to record each mic to separate channels (left/right). That’s very useful in post-production, especially when you want to isolate different speakers. Hollyland records everything as a mix, so SmallRig has an advantage here.Overall:Hollyland feels more stable, more polished, and more reliable in real-world use, but it lacks small accessories like silicone covers.SmallRig has some great ideas and useful features, but the signal reliability still raises concerns for professional work.I’ll keep testing it and update my review after more shoots.
