How big is the hole for the lock to go through? Could i use a 1/2" padlock on this..?

For me, after experimenting with different locks, I found one that works perfectly, meaning when the shackle is inserted there is virtually "no play or movement" horizontally or vertically and you can lock the end of the shackle into the body of the lock. I found that a 50 mm (i.e., about 2") wide lock with an 8 mm (i.e., about 1/3") shackle diameter that typically comes with a 25 or 26 mm (i.e., 1 ") shackle clearance. I purchased Brinks 671-50001 from Home Depot and they have them on Amazon. Perfect fit. There are other locks out there that will fit these specs you just have to look for them and study the dimensions on the package. Of course, other 50 mm locks with 1.5" shackles will work too but these locks will allow a would be intruder to open the box about a half inch while it is locked and have a peek inside the box and then more easily insert a crowbar into the gap and destroy the box. With a 1" shackle it is much harder to pull that off.
