Description says 300a continuous but in the lower info it states note: normally make 80a as working current, need break 5 sec on, 50 min off - why???

This is MaySpare Service. The Max Short Time Current can endure 300A; But if u want to keep working for more than one hour without break, the current need be about 80Amp; Otherwise the body of solenoid will be so hot and burned

How many miliamps does it require to activate the solenoid? I want to make sure my momentary push button switch can support activation of this solen

I believe the coil resistance is around 14 ohms which would make the current around 900 milliamps. But Rember thr collaspe of the coil during disconnect creates large spikes across a small switch and burn the switch contacts, therefore I would a 1 amp @600 volt despising diode across the solenoid coil to protect your switch contacts.

None of the posts are labeled. Which one is the on switch?

This is generally used to power large loads like a starter or like my app. Four bilge blowers. The big posts on the side are battery cable in than wires out to the load. The small posts are power and ground to run the solenoid. Connect one to ground one to the switch. You might want to test the small posts with an ohm meter. Make sure neither is to ground .
