Integrated Chinese Level 1 - Textbook with Supplemental Readings (Simplified characters)

Well it's expensive but a really good book. Considering this price is all around there's not much to complain aboutm great book

I’m just beginning my journey through the Integrated Chinese, 4th Edition textbook and have completed the pronunciation section in the “Basics” chapter. I’ve seen some reviewers criticize this section as overly complex, and while I understand that reaction, especially for those with no background in phonetics , I think it deserves high praise. Yes, the explanations go into technical detail. But they do so with clarity and precision, capturing the essence of Mandarin pronunciation better than any beginner resource I’ve encountered. If you have even a basic understanding of phonetics or phonology, you’ll likely agree: this section is remarkably well done. In fact, it’s one of the most succinct and accurate overviews of how modern Mandarin is actually spoken. For me, this section alone justifies the price of the book. It lays a strong foundation for pronunciation, which is essential for any serious learner. I would advise new learners to not gloss over this section. It contains the key to intelligible Mandarin sounds and speech.

Great resource for learning. I wish the fluentlink came with the textbook, but I suppose it requires a subscription from your teacher. The book has excellent vocab and helpful dialogues to teach you proper grammar.

There is audio available for the textbook and workbook - but it is not intuitive to figure out. Don't waste time trying to find a "product code" or "license key" - it's impossible. Instead, go to the cheng-tsui website, create an account with username and email, then go to 'resources', find the book you purchased, click the link, then enter your username, email, and answer the verification question (like the last word on a page from the book) - form there you can download a file. You should receive an email with the downloadable link; and it will expire in a week from when sent - so don't forget! Do it for both the textbook and the workbook.
