Caused MASSIVE algae outbreak due to brightness. Upgraded version is great!
UPDATE #2 I upgraded my original review from 2-5 stars The customer service has been excellent from this seller. After I got my massive algae outbreak under control(see below) I purchased the upgraded version of this light which now has the ability to change brightness and color in 24/7 mode. The only way to tell if you receive the upgraded version ( because the old and new are currently mixed together at the warehouse) is to look at page 10 of the manual. If the top line on the page says time, color, brightness, you received the newer version. There is a battery backup in the control that saves current settings in case of a power outage which is a great feature. There are helpful programming videos explaining how to set up the controls, so it's not as complicated as it initially seemed. I am currently running 2 different sizes of this light on 2 separate tanks and have been very pleased with the newer version. My plants are doing great and there's no algae outbreak in sight. I will buy more in the future. ORIGINAL REVIEW. The controls are quite complicated to program on this very bright light. The biggest problem that I have experienced is that there is no way to dim the light intensity level when on 24/7 mode, which resulted in a MASSIVE hair algae outbreak that covered all of my plants, glass and rocks in a surprisingly short period of time. I have pulled out an entire tank full of live plants 3 times and dipped them in diluted peroxide followed by dosing of liquid carbon to try to keep them from dying due to algae suffocation. I have also removed all of the hardscape and scrubbed it down to remove the blanket of algae covering it as well. I have been doing 50% water changes every 3 days for the past 4 weeks because the algae returns so rapidly. I have even done total blackouts which helped, but once I turned the light back on for 2 hours per day, for the plants survival, poof! the algae returned with a vengeance. I have become a slave to my aquarium, spending many hours per week battling this scourge. It will be a miracle if my plants survive, because they are all currently melting. Once this algae sets in it seems to be very difficult to overcome. I finally resorted to replacing this high intensity light with the old kit light that came with my aquarium and so far the algae has not returned. UPDATE #1: Customer service reached out to me several hours after posting this review and offered me an upgraded replacement that allows brightness adjustment in 24/7 mode or a refund. Customer service has been excellent. I am willing to try the upgraded light, since I was happy with the quality. Regarding the difficult programming of the light schedule, customer service sent me more detailed directions and is also willing to help program specific times if needed. This company has been very willing to stand behind their product, which I really appreciate. I will be happy to try the upgraded version.

Light does in fact grow plants.
The light is great. It’s doing well on the 29 gallon planted tank I purchased it for. It has enough PAR to actually reach the substrate which is approximately 15 inches down in an 18 inch deep tank. I’m growing easy to medium care plants along with some floaters like “frogbite” and after only a couple days the plants are really looking great and more vibrant. Heat is minimal and timer was easy to set up. Anyone who says differently probably didn’t even bother to look at the instructions or is the type of people that should be supervised and wearing a helmet at all times.

Excellent Light for Fast, Healthy Plant Growth
I’ve been using this SEAOURA 24/7 aquarium light for a few months now, and it’s made a huge difference in my planted tank. My red tiger lotus and Rotala Blood Red have been growing fast and turning bright red under this light. The colors really pop at around 90% intensity, though I did have to lower it to 70% to reduce algae at that level. The controls are easy to use, the power off memory works perfectly, and the build quality is excellent. It even slipped into the water for a few seconds, and it’s still running strong 8 hours a day without any issues. For most planted tanks that just need a good full spectrum light, this one is perfect. The only thing missing is a custom color mode to fine tune red intensity for high red plants that would make it flawless. Overall, great value, great performance, and surprisingly durable!

EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE - And the light grows live plants very well
[REVISED REVIEW] I am revising this review to reflect the prompt action by customer support in addressing my initial concerns. As seen in the original review, my particular light died after only 10 weeks. Immediately after my review, SEAOURA reached out to me to rectify the situation. They offered a full refund or a replacement light. Because I had already purchased a new light the day mine totally died, I opted for the refund, which I received promptly. The kicker here is that, because their brand of lights works so well, the replacement light I purchased the day mine died was, in fact, another SEAOURA-branded light. That speaks to my confidence in how well their lights grow plants. While I gave the light 4 stars in this review, I'd rate the entire experience as a solid 4.5 - 4 for the light .5 for the initial experience. [ORIGINAL REVIEW] In all honesty, the light is GREAT for growing plants when it works. This is the reason I gave it two stars instead of one. PROs - The form factor of the light is great and modern. For my 55-gallon, heavily planted tank, the lights fit perfectly. It has rails that slide in and out of the light housing, making it quite simple to adjust the length. - I think the highlight of the light, for many, will be that it has various lighting options - 24 Hour lighting and a timed schedule. For me, the 24-hour lighting (which goes from dawn to dusk in a variety of realistic colors over the course of the day) is too long a lighting period for my tank and can cause an algae bloom if not handled carefully. I ended up using the schedule to customize the lights to fit my needs. The schedule allows you to have 2 separate lighting events: one for AM and one for PM. This was PERFECT for me and my plants (with proper fertilization and nutrient dosing), my plants grew extremely fast. - Backup Battery for the timing module - Where I live, the power goes out frequently. Having a battery backup on the timing module saved me from having to reset the schedule every single day the power went out. I'd never think I'd need it; however, with the amount of customization the light has, it is a MUST if you lose power. CONs - My biggest con is that the equipment's longevity was laughable. Again, the light lasted barely 3 months. The light was only on for 7 hours a day, and that is it. It appears the timing module itself went belly up. I noticed the numbers on the timer looking like hieroglyphics one day, then the light patterns changed, with the light finally refusing to turn on. - A small con is that the directions on how to use the lighting schedule are pretty bad. Thankfully, there are a few YouTube videos that walk through the process, so I relied on them to eventually get me where I needed to be. To me, having an aquarium light go out after barely 3 months is unacceptable. If my aquarium were full of plastic plants, it'd be tolerable. However, with a tank full of plants and 20 fish, it could have been disastrous if I hadn't acted quickly and gotten another light the next day. I actually really did like the light. I would even recommend the light IF it lasted at least a year. As it stands, I cannot do so, as the main function of the light (growing my plants) stopped working after 10 weeks.

Fantastic fully programmable light with battery backup.
I have this light on a 40g Marineland breeder tank that has a 36”x18” footprint. This pic was taken with the light set at 10% brightness on full spectrum. Without a doubt, if you want to grow plants this is an absolute powerhouse. My Cichlid breeder tank has fake plants in it as the cichlids will eat live plants and in a 40g they serve to break up sight lines and reduce aggression. This tank was set up 2 weeks ago and is cycling with 1 fish in there. Programming takes some time but once you figure it out the light is awesome on its 24/7 setting that starts with a yellow sunrise migrating to full day sunshine to a yellow sunset to blue moonlight to off. All fully programmable for color, time and brightness. Well worth the extra $. If you want to grow live plants I can’t even imagine how well they would do under a light that can deliver so much power if you turn it up. I have to keep it lower with fake plants to avoid an algae bloom. With a tank packed full of live plants you’ll grow a jungle in no time.

Great light.
This light works great. Very happy with it and would buy again. It took me a few times to get the timer set up correctly but it wasn't to bad.

Orange doesn’t work for 24/7 mode on L2
I love the light. My plants love it too. I already see that this is the light they were craving so they can grow! However, L2 setting is malfunctioning on 24/7 custom mode. When setting up, I am selecting orange, it starts alternating colors and move on to finish setting the rest of the schedule with no issues. (I want it to start on full spectrum for 3.5 hrs, then 4 hours of low orange, then 3.5 hours of full spectrum, and lastly 4 hours of cool blue night light. It automatically turns off until the start time of full spectrum the next day). It doesn’t do this when I toggle through the other colors when setting L2. If I do select/save C9 (for orange), it will not turn L1 off at the proper time and this can cause big issues with algae if not home to manually keep on schedule because it stays on my L1 setting for full spectrum. I just changed the culprit color orange to yellow and will update. I tried reaching out to the seller and Amazon reached out first to see how that went but I haven’t heard from the seller yet.

Good lighting with challenging programming
It took a while to choose a replacement light for my fish tank. I needed something 24" wide to fit in my old fluorescent housing and this worked perfectly. The LED light quality looks good to me. I do not another one to compare it to so all I can say is that it is an good upgrade to my fluorescent light. I wanted a programmable one because I did not know what light level I would like. This was a good economical choice for me. I am still trying to figure out the programming. So far I have it turning on and off by itself. Brightness and color can be adjusted. There is also a night time setting. There are a lot of directions provided but there are so many steps involving pressing different buttons one or twice or holding a button down for 3 seconds that I cannot recall my choices fast enough to get to the next step before "programming mode" turns off.

24/7 Aquarium Light
Best Light with so much features

Brilliant, and super customisable
Brilliant, and actually quite easy and instincitive to set up. I was worried because my other (smaller) seaoura had a very complicated 24/7 mode which in the end meant i was manually adjusting the light because I could not make it work. This one, I am relieved to say, was simpler to understand because it has a built in clock. The instructions are very clear, and i love that it has a QR code to the manual printed on the control box so you can't lose the instructions. In 24/7 mode it allows you to set 5 time segments, one of which is spoken for as it covers the time the light is off during the night. So you have 4 segments of light ypu can set. I wanted to mimic natural daylight cycles as closely as possible, which is both best for plants and fish welfare. Plants need the midday intensity for photosynthesis. Fish benefit from gradual transitions rather than sudden bright/dark changes. My corys especially get active during dusk and dawn. (I do the same with my heater, I let the temp drop by about 1 or 2 degrees during the night and then warm up again during the day, by having my heater plugged into a timer plug). The instructions suggest morning, daytime, evening and moonlight. I decided it made more sense to have early morning, midday, afternoon and evening. And then off during the night, of course. There are 15 mins of gradual transition between each segment, so say between night and the first segment, it will very slowly and gently come on. Not suddenly jump between levels. Segment 1 — Dawn (7am-8am) Warm amber/orange at 30% brightness. Mimics sunrise. Gentle wake up for fish, signals the start of their day. I didn't want it longer than an hour because then the amber becomes jarring, in my opinion. I might yet end up changing to violet because the yellow is quite out there and violet light is calmer for the fish and better for the plants. But I'm trying things. - 15 min transition - Segment 2 — Morning into midday (8am-1pm) Full spectrum (white light) at 70%. Plants start photosynthesising properly, fish become active. - 15 min transition - Segment 3 — Midday (1pm-6pm) Full spectrum (white light) at 100%. Peak plant growth window. Feel warned. This is BRIGHT but your plants need this and fish adapt, especially with good plant cover to retreat into. - 15 min transition - Segment 4 — Evening/Dusk (6pm to 10pm) Soft blue or violet at 20-30% dimming down gradually. Mimics sunset, signals wind down, absolutely beautiful to watch actually. I've currently chosen violet because my fish seemed happier in violet than in blue. Then 15 min transition to night off. I will adjust the hours every season change, at the minute we have some level of light between 7am and 10pm because the house is light all day as the days are long, but this longevity of light would just stress the fish out in winter. Im also conscious I moght get a lot of algae growth if I keep this up year round. So I will adjust it every 3 months to reflect the changes in sunrise and sunset, is the plan. Love that it makes this all so simple!!
