The answer above says the 560bx-c Special 20 is a newer version of the Special 20. What has changed to make it newer?

I have to disagree. The new design lets more air to circulate inside the harp. I can feel the difference. I have been playing for about 15 years. All of my harps are Hohner special 20 my c harp is C. I have tried many others over the years. With special 20 it is easier to save on my air. I am in 3 harmonica bands so having more air I don't get as tired.

I'm a beginner, looking for a decent harmonica to learn on. Can anyone recommend what key I should purchase, or does it matter?

Compelling reason to but in the key of C that I don't think anyone's mentioned: almost all your online lessons will be done on a C harp. If you stick with it, you'll eventually want half a dozen keys that are common, but to start just get C.

what does the name special 20 imply?

The 20 represents the 20 reeds, 10 blow and 10 draw. It is basicly a Marine Band with a plastic comb and covers that are screwed on and not tacked in place.
