A real competitor for LEGO
First thing: I am an AFOL. I have hundreds of official LEGO sets and something like 200K pieces. I own a couple Lenin / Chinese clone sets and have seen the rapid rise in quality from these Chinese knock off brands in recent years, ranging in quality from awful to identical. I would recommend Funwhole as an affordable extension of LEGO. The quality is honestly on par with LEGO. The builds are interesting, take more chances, avoid annoying stickers, and the included optional lighting really dials up the value immensely. I will emphasize โoptionalโ here, as alternate pieces are provided for all prewired pieces if you donโt wish to use the lights. The box, book, and accessories are all better than LEGO, printed in full color with clear instructions and individually wrapped and sealed similarly to LEGO but with added tools like tweezers. I had zero missing pieces, zero broken pieces during the build, and a handful of extra pieces. A set of this size without lights would easily be 2x the price from LEGO, but Funwhole is delivering at $130 (before the seemingly permanent coupons). I ordered another set at the same time and both were of the same high quality and worth far more if weโre comparing to LEGO pricing. The minifigs are awful. LEGO still has that copyright and thereโs no way around that. It is what it is. I simply didnโt put them together. This is the first brand I know that is delivering a consistent quality that competes with LEGO at a price point that makes it hard to justify LEGO. I will be following them and keeping an eye on new sets as these 2 were a pleasure to build. Already have another 2 saved for future purchase. The only downside is that while most of their colors are the same as LEGO, they also expand on colors to fit the builds. This will make it hard to organize, as these pieces are quality enough that I wonโt be sorting them separately from LEGO in my storage, like Iโve done with every other Chinese knock off brand so far. Highly recommended. Glad someone has stepped up to the plate and I hope they continue to deliver. Also the brand name is hilarious to me.

Awesome value and excellent build.
Excellent build, cool lighting, great printed pieces. Good instructions, one booklet even came with a sheet of corrections but I didn't even notice what was being corrected. Pretty much agree with what everyone is saying about this set. In addition the largest window panes were individually the packed to protect them from scratches. The largest printed sections were also wrapped individually to protect the prints. Several cool recolors of existing Lego-type parts, lots of silver pieces including double doorways. The wiring of the lights added a whole new dimension to the building experience and look great. Best of all is the modular nature of the lighting system so you can power it via the battery brick or just plug it directly to a USB outlet adapter. Really my only major complaint is that the base plates are full plate thickness and not thinner like Lego baseplates so the model is a bit taller when side-by-side with Lego Modular buildings. Also would like to see more stud connections to place mini-figures, the model is pretty much all smooth tiles. The figures are throw-aways as far as I'm concerned but at least the hats/hair still work with Lego minifigs. Only piece that wasn't quite perfect was one of the double doorways where the doors rub ever so slightly when closing all the way. Lots of extra leftover pieces, some look like replacements for the lights if you don't want to wire it but some are extras used in the set and a few are completely random (1x1 red bricks that appear no where in the build). One 2x14 plate in clear was simply used to hold the large sign together for shipment, cool to get a big plate in an irregular color, actually made use of it during the build to hold the second floor sections that swing apart together while assembling it, made it way easier especially when wiring. Awesome value especially with the coupon, pretty much half the cost of Lego. Favorite Print: The box of Cat Food. Favorite Brick: The cat in a light tan color.

Could Just be Better Than Lego
Absolutely amazing set. I love to add lighting to my Lego sets but the way this build is setup is truly perfect. The wires are hidden perfectly and the way that you attach levels without having to connect the wiring is genius. The other plus of the set is the detail inside and the way that it folds open and the rooms can slide out to look at closer. The durability is equally impressive. The bricks fit tightly and when you need to move the set you donโt have to worry about treating it like itโs going to crumble at any second. I will definitely get more of these sets because for the price, not only is it a great value, it is just as good or maybe even better than the brand that I have loved since I was a kid.

Fantastic build
UPDATE: I reached out to the company and they made it very easy to get the missing pieces I needed. Have changed to 5 stars because the build was amazing. The books are quality and easy to follow and the light kit sends the build over the top. Will definitely purchase more from this company. First set for me from this company, and with so many positive reviews across SM I was excited to get started. Great packaging, great instructional books, lighting included, what could possibly go wrong? Missing window glass, bag 2, step 78 & 79. I am now at a stand still until I can get pieces. It has been fun to build up until this point.

Must-Have Modular
Funwhole's modulars go from strength to strength. Not only do they come with integrated lights and all prints (no stickers--Lego, take note), but they are densely packed with details, fun for experienced builders looking for something new, and they're innovative. The innovation of this set is the unprecedented level of accessiblity it offers in a commercial modular: in addition to the usual removable stories, the whole set hinges open, and the floors slide out for play or for adults to appreciate the ultra-high level of detail. This is a game changer that makes Lego's modulars seem quaint by comparison. As usual with Funwhole, the manuals are beautifully printed and clear, the bricks are of the highest quality, and the prints are also top notch. And of course, the pricing is way better than Lego, and the lights are beautiful. Most highly recommended.

A Legitimate, Quality Alternative - Very Creative and Nice Surprises
I finally did it. I broke down, and tried one of the (many) Lego 'alternatives'. A big deal (for me at least). This will be a slightly longer review, but hopefully thorough. Long story short - I really enjoyed it, but it was far from a 'perfect' experience. More detail? Let's get into it... I had seen this advertised for quite some time and I was always intrigued. 90% of my reviews were written in the 2000s, and about music as I was/am a huge collector, so going to the stores (which aren't around anymore) resonated with me. And this being one - the colors, characters and detail - it didn't have the same 'play it cute/safe' of Lego. It had a bit of grit to it and something about the detail I could see from the examples seemed so cool. So finally, as a Holiday present for myself and when it somehow crept under a hundred, it was time and I made the jump. I admit I am a fan of Lego and collect certain sets even today but wanted to mention how this holds up in comparison and then some. First, I will talk about what I liked: Positives 1: This set is so creative. The amount of detail is on par with, if not a bit more so, than many of Lego's modulars that I've seen. I mean not only is there a (rather Lego looking) cat, but he has his own box of cat-food and more. The shelves for the store are cool, there's wall art - it's just so neat. There's even an ATM machine around the corner. You look close enough you'll find some neat hidden things. 2: The lighting adds a whole other element and life to the modular. Not only is it cool, but the lights are different colors even and there's neat interplay with different window colors. Utilizing them appropriately I will admit added some anxiety as you're figuring out how it works, length of cords, etc. but it's a welcome addition and well put together. 3: The blocks stuck without issue, the set came with a brick remover - oh and it came with tweezers and a screwdriver too for the battery pack. The tools even helped a bit with the light wiring & fitting it into the grooves. 4: I had plenty of extra pieces - to the extent that I would often double check to make sure I didn't miss something. I appreciate that - especially with the smaller pieces which I'd imagine would be easier to have missing. 5: This is probably the biggest for me - no missing pieces! I had a small degree of anxiety as I would fear the inevitable piece that was missing which could grind the build to a halt. I am happy to say that for me, that did not happen. Also, all of the bags were numbered and real effort was made to make sure you are able to follow and build correctly. Could be Better: Here's where it gets tricky and even some 'wins' stopped from being perfect scores. 1: The Instructions were pretty good to follow - that's the positive. However trying to distinguish some of the colors was a frustrating challenge. Grays, greens, darks and whites in particular. It would be great if the instructions maybe had a 'Wh' for white, or numbers, etc. Problem is you would look for the right color LATER. 2: The minifigures have some cool designs and features, but overall seem awkward and can't fully interact with many of the elements in the environment. Also - they are pretty fragile - the arm on one of them broke very quickly when trying to remove it. Thankfully, this is one area that they included extra parts which is appreciated! 3: The lighting system worked well for the most part - but the way the switch attaches doesn't always 'stay' if that makes sense โ bottom is a sticker. Also, the connection for the floors can be a little bit finicky too. 4: MANY bags. And I understand that's needed because there are many parts. However, there were several times where I could have sworn I had all 3 bags, only to discover there was a 4th hidden all the way at the bottom of the box. Pro-Tip - if you think there are pieces missing, there's a good chance there's a bag of small parts you missed. Would be great if somehow the numbered ones were together, maybe even having the smaller bags for 'series 4' inside the biggest bag for 'series 4' as an example. Overall โ this definitely won't be the last set I try from Lumibricks. In fact it wasn't - I tried the Chili-Dog stand and it came out great, a better experience overall. But my fear is that as they gain popularity, their sets will go up in price to where you're making a decision between it and Lego (whereas now itโs a simple decision to me outside of the must have license). For now, however, I would recommend it! Great build and it looks terrific! Maybe my tip again for anyone that does make the jump - remember the bit about the bags. Hopefully you really don't have missing pieces but when I THOUGHT I did, it was just that I hadn't seen them. I added a few pictures below of it - please note though that I also included the Chili Dog stand, which is a separate set & not included.
