I used this to lower a "bar" on a bar billiard table I constructed. Like others I tried with a AA battery pack of 4 cells but it couldn't drive it with much force. I ended up with a 12v 1A power supply and this worked as long as I kept the friction to a minimum. So I started trying to use the shaft directly on a piece of MDF but ended up connecting a small flat plate on the end of the shaft and this works fine. So depending on application, try and get a 12V 1A supply and consider any sideways force or friction carefully and it should work.
