Primed for Perfection: My Experience with Liquitex Professional Gesso
As an artist, the foundation of any painting is crucial, and I was searching for a reliable primer to prepare my 14x14 canvas. Enter Liquitex Professional Gesso. I had heard of its reputation but was eager to see if it lived up to the hype. Upon opening the container, I was greeted with a thick, creamy texture that promised good coverage. The application was smooth, and I could feel the gesso gripping the canvas, creating a surface that was both absorbent and slightly textured—perfect for acrylics. After the recommended drying time, I was impressed by the matte white finish that not only brightened the canvas but also provided an excellent base for my paints. The true test came when I began painting. The gessoed surface allowed the acrylics to adhere beautifully, with colors appearing vibrant and true. The added tooth gave my brushwork a satisfying resistance, enhancing control and precision. I also appreciated the archival quality of the gesso, knowing it would help preserve my artwork for years to come. However, it's worth noting that the gesso's clear opacity means that any underlying pencil sketches or markings are not effectively covered, so plan your compositions accordingly. That could be great if you still want whatever’s underneath to show through, or challenging if you’re used to a dress that is white or some other color. Additionally, while the gesso provides a sturdy base, it's essential to allow each layer to dry thoroughly to avoid any lifting or smudging during subsequent applications. In conclusion, Liquitex Professional Gesso proved to be an excellent choice for priming my canvas. It delivered on its promises of quality, durability, and performance, setting the stage for a successful painting project. If you're looking for a dependable primer to ensure your artwork starts on the right foot, this gesso is a worthy investment.

Gesso in tub size… gotta have it
Best size to buy of gesso. It remains useable with tight fitting top. I gesso all my cradle panels and need to keep gesso on hand since it’s a step I do not miss. This is an artist’s must have

Would Definitely Reccomend
The Liquitex Professional Gesso Surface Prep Medium is a solid pick for artists looking to get their surfaces just right. This white gesso is great for prepping your canvas, wood, or paper, giving you a smooth, consistent base to work on. It helps your paint stick better and makes colors pop. The gesso itself is creamy and spreads easily, so you won’t have to worry about streaks or uneven spots. It dries pretty fast, too, leaving you with a flexible, non-yellowing, matte finish that's perfect for both acrylic and oil paints. Plus, the size is super handy—whether you're just starting out or need something portable. All in all, Liquitex Professional Gesso is a must-have for making sure your artwork turns out looking its best.

Wood panels
Awesome gesso for wood panels. Prevents bleeding of paint into the grain of the wood.

Bit pricey
A bit pricey for the size, but it's good

A fine gesso
I purchased this gesso for priming plywood panels for use with oil painting. I might thin it just a little next time I use it, as it's just a little bit thick. It sands very nicely when dry, and I was able to get a very smooth surface to paint on with little effort. Works great, no odor, and easy cleanup. It's water based, so you can thin with water, and very easy to use.

I’ll Never Do Another Paint-by-Number Without This
Clear gesso is now a non-negotiable part of my paint-by-number process. I use a big, fat acrylic brush to apply it, a cheap one, since this stuff goes on with a glue-like texture that absolutely will not play nice with anything you care about. Once dry, the surface develops what artists politely call “tooth,” which in this case feels like rubbing your hand across a chalkboard while someone whispers unsettling facts about sand. Is it texturally cursed? Slightly. Does it completely transform how well paint grips the canvas? Absolutely. With one coat, my paints stay where I put them, the lines don’t bleed, and I use far fewer layers to get solid, even coverage. That includes covering the printed outlines and numbers that span the entire canvas. It does slightly mute the background color, which gave me a moment of pause the first time I used it. But the lines and numbers stayed sharp, and since the entire surface gets painted over, it turned out to be a complete non-issue. This won’t make you a better painter, but it will make the whole experience feel less like a struggle and more like something you might voluntarily do again. _______ The attached photo obviously isn’t of the product itself. It’s clear. What would that even look like? But it does show the results. I’m also including a video so you can see how well it works in action.

Excellent
Have used this for years and just love the ground it makes to paint on. It’s clear which is great for layering. Dries quickly.

calidad excelente
