Retro flair meets high-tech performance—perfect desktop companion
This 8BitDo Retro R8 mouse immediately caught my attention with its nostalgic design, perfectly matching my retro-themed keyboard, yet it delivers modern performance with its PAW 3395 optical sensor and Kailh Sword GM-X micro switches. The sensor responded smoothly and accurately whether I was browsing or flipping through documents, while the switches provided a satisfying tactile click that feels premium and precise. Switching between 2.4 GHz, Bluetooth, and wired USB-C modes was seamless, giving me flexibility to connect to my desktop, laptop, or gaming console as needed. The included charging dock not only keeps the mouse powered—from its rechargeable battery—but also acts as a stable base when idle, minimizing desktop clutter. Ergonomically, it feels lightweight and well-balanced, ideal for daily use, though it may require a bit of adjustment if you’re used to weighted gaming mice. Overall, this mouse blends form and function brilliantly: it performs just as well as it looks, making it a standout pick for anyone looking to elevate their workspace aesthetics without sacrificing performance.

Don't let the looks fool you - it's a great mouse underneath all of those retro inspired looks
I'm a fan of the retro look that 8Bitdo goes for a lot and this mouse is no exception. It's cool that they also matched the dock to the same look. It's very easy to charge the mouse on the dock so the looks aren't the only thing nice about the dock. As for actual use, don't let the retro look fool you - it's responsive, comfortable, lightweight but not cheap feeling. The software that's used is minimalistic is features but it does what you need it to do. There's no RGB or lighting at all on the mouse so it can be hard to see in a darker environment if you set it down. But that's not an issue typically for me. It's been dropped a few times since purchase and it's never shown any wear or damage. There are 2 programmable buttons on each side that I haven't really used for anything as of yet and thankfully they do not get in the way of typical use either. It's nice to have something in this price range that includes all the features you'd expect and then some.

A cool design and good functionality.
I just got this earlier today and so far it seems like a really nice mouse. The scroll wheel is nice and dense and the button clicks feel really nice. I really appreciate the charging station or how it has a Type C plug in both the station and the mouse so you can charge without the station if need be. It connected to my MacBook just fine and I'm sure it'll connect to my PC just as easy. It's a really cool licensed mouse for the price. The only thing I'd suggest for them is if they can make a Gameboy Color line of this product in Atomic Purple I'd immediately buy the whole set!

A solid Mouse
I love the mouse, it's quite comfortable despite the retro look it has; the weight is spot on. I have been using it for work and gaming, and I have only one complaint: The mouse buttons are easy to press accidentally, at least for my hand, so I had to get used to it. Regardless, it's a solid mouse, the price is pretty good, and the buttons give that extra functionality where now I can do more with my mouse.

Very High Quality Mouse
Very high quality, mostly on par with my actual gamer mouse with the exception of less conveniently placed buttons. The side buttons are weird and the right side buttons are weirder, but just require some getting used to. The dock is very high quality, stylish and weighty, and feels a lot more convenient than the conventional wireless mouse. My only real complaints are with the mouse wheel and the mouse software. The mouse wheel is good but a bit sharp at the edges, so it can leave my finger sore if I touch it too much. The software feels a bit janky, and it took a decent bit of finagling to just get the Windows key working for one of the buttons. I also don't like how the buttons don't have their own inputs and instead need to be mapped to other keys, but this is a nitpick. Generally very high quality mouse, worth the price.

A Pleasant Surprise
I bought this mouse for casual desktop use, but I was pleased to find that it's great for PC gaming, too. This mouse uses the PAW 3395 sensor, which is found in many cheap gaming mice. It has great tracking, and 8BitDo's software allows a great deal of customizability. It's great for casual FPS games (eg: 7 Days to Die, ARK: Survival Ascended, etc.). You have to swipe the mouse really fast to make it skip (I use a 1,000Hz polling rate, 400DPI, and 2mm lift-off distance). However, because the mouse can still skip if you swipe it really fast, I'd be wary of relying on it for competitive gameplay like Counter-Strike. The included charging stand is incredibly convenient, and thank goodness for USB Type C charging. My previous mouse was a SteelSeries Rival 650 wireless mouse, and it was annoying to need a Micro-USB cable to charge it, as well as it being inconvenient to use and charge at the same time (you can't configure the Rival 650 to not sleep when plugged in). The 8BitDo R8 has none of these problems. This is a lightweight, well-built mouse that offers great value for the money. I'd trust it for all but the most extreme use cases. Its convenience, pricing, and performance make it a great mouse overall.

Eh prettyy mediocre, but not in a bad way
Bought because im a huge fan of 8bitdo and the color scheme of this mouse interested me. Pros: - decent build quality -good weighted dock for charging Cons: -the mouse itself is pretty lightweight which although is a pro for some fps players. I was hoping atleast a bit of heft to it instead it feels like as light as a regular cheap hollow wireless mouse. -clicking noises are loud Again, for some this is a plus, but for me 50 dollars is a lot to pay for a hollow feeling loud clicking mouse But the dock is good, i love that its rechargable. Had some trouble with the software though. Did not want to perform firmware update and would just stay stuck on loading for some reason.

It's a great mouse if you like retro style and feeling. Though the USB cable that comes with it is bad quality... After not even a month of usage I keep getting USB disconnects frequently! Then after a few seconds it reconnects. Super annoying since it's a wireless mouse and it simply stops working every now and then =\ After replacing the USB cable I have not been having any issues every since...

8BitDo have done an amazing job with this mouse. As someone who has used a lot of mice from Logitech G Pro Superlight, G502x, Pulsar's X2 and X2H and the Glorious Model O V1 and V2 and Glorious Forge series. Sometimes you just want something simple and effective and this mouse from 8BitDo does that. Although it may not be the most ergonomic mouse it feels comfortable to use. The side buttons are a little bit odd because they are so small but once you get used to it that problem goes away. The best part of this mouse is the charging dock. The magnets to the base are strong. It has a spot for the 2.4ghz adaptor so you just plug it into the dock and then the included USB C to A cable into your PC and you have both charging and connection in one. It is really well thought out. The fact you can swap between 2.4ghz to Bluetooth makes this mouse even better. As you can use it for your gaming PC and then use the same mouse for when you are working from home. It has done a great job of simplifying my peripherals. In regards to competitive gaming I have not noticed any difference in my first person shooting performance when using the Retro R8 mouse to some of the more competitive focused mice. Would definitely recommend. Also the Xbox theme is the best.

Significan't more comfortable than I thought, and the sensor itself is great. The base is quite weighty and allows you to remove the mouse without having the base slide on your desk, honestly I think it's pretty great for the price.
