Long teach, but really good Feld!
I really have been having a good time playing this. Stephan Feld fans should be happy with this game, since it pulls some mechanics from some of his other games. The teach is a lot though, as in there is a lot to go over before you play. My buddy and I are seasoned heavy hobby board gamers, and picked it up pretty easily, so it’s not impossible. I just would not play this with your typical “well you never told me that” player, because it’s going to take a play to understand all of the moving parts, and you should only worry about being competitive from game two on. Tons of replayability. I’m very glad to have pulled the trigger on this purchase.

Llego muy bien embalado, que para un juego de mesa es fundamental. Juego muy recomendable para los amantes del los euros.

Much to admire, but too much luck.
Civolution might be Feld’s best design in years. There’s much to admire here in terms of gameplay. BUT….. the game is VERY swingy and HEAVILY dependent on luck. Every game I’ve played has had a runaway winner. Civolution is the kind of game that can last four hours, that one hour in you know you can’t win.

Excellent, heavy, and not for beginners.
This is a heavy, advanced Euro/hobby game. It is not for beginners, in any way. Feld is a legendary game designer, and this is his heaviest/most complex yet. Five stars for us, because of so may ways to score points, and the dice worker placement system for action selection. Initial unboxing will take a very large time commitment, but the storage solution for future players is actually pretty good. This is a game that's going to take several plays to start feeling confident during play, but that's part of the fun and challenge. Excellent.

This may be my favorite Feld title to date.
First, I'm a fan of Feld games in general. Has above average interaction for one of his games, and includes ways to attack other's positions. It also has a more interconnected salad buffet for the point salad than many Feld games - actions can lead to point generation in multiple different ways. With the variability of the scoring and board, there's a lot a replay value. Not a big fan of the rulebook however. The rulebook does do a good job of helping you get set up to play. The "Excursions" and "Key Actions" sections are not as well labeled for finding the keywords, they're all just labeled "Excursion" or "Key Action", that's minor. I'm not a fan of the rules for Sites being divided into two areas. The note about using the double stick strips on the board doesn't appear until the middle of page 4 of the rule book and is in a tiny font size, this bit of instructions should be on the top of the box with big red signs saying "Read this first!" The worst, to me, is the Action Modules are not listed in alphabetical order.

Another Feld hit
All components are accounted for but the box was nearly torn all the way through on one corner edge. The small boxes that were in the game box also have some soft scratches and odd smears of some oil-like substance on them. The rulebook does have the 1st edition errors so go to Boardgamegeek or Deep Print Games to get the errata sheet. As for the game itself, it is definitely on the heavy side. Rulebook is excellent and the glossary answers any questions relating to the cards and game terms. Playtime can range from 90 minutes to maybe 3 hours but I'll most likely play this solo. The game relies on the luck of the dice rolls but there is mitigation and many avenues to explore to score points. I can definitely see myself playing this for a long time.
