“Hearty Campbell’s Chunky Sirloin Burger Soup: Big on Flavor, Heavy on Salt”
4.0 out of 5 stars - Hearty and Tasty, but a Bit Salty Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2025 I picked up Campbell’s Chunky Sirloin Burger Soup looking for a quick, filling meal, and it mostly hit the mark. The soup is packed with tender, seasoned sirloin burger pieces that actually taste like real beef—not that chewy mystery meat you sometimes get in canned soups. The mix of potatoes, carrots, green beans, and peas adds a nice variety, with the potatoes giving it that extra hearty feel. The broth is rich and savory, with a subtle grilled flavor that I enjoyed. My only gripe is the sodium—man, it’s high! One can has a ton of your daily salt intake, so it left me feeling a bit bloated. Also, while my can tasted great, I’ve read some reviews mentioning a weird metallic aftertaste, so I’m hoping that was just a bad batch for them. Overall, it’s a solid choice for a quick lunch or dinner when you’re craving something meaty and warm. Just maybe don’t eat it every day unless you’re cool with the salt overload. Would buy again for those chilly days!

Sick tasty soup at a reasonable price
The soup is thick and tasty. The cans have a tab so you don’t need a can opener to open them - something I like because I eat a lot of soup at work and don’t need a can opener to open these.

could use more beans, overall good flavor & texture. Smokey, little sweet
Thick in that it isn't a runny broth. Thick in that there isnt much liquid left over. I am spooning up primarily food bits, not liquid. But not thick like a gravy either. I think has an appropriate viscosity. Good large pieces of "meat", the size of a quarter. Lots of chunks of potato Just a tease of beans, could use more beans. Has a BBQ base flavor, hint of smokey and sweet. But not too sweet. Overall nice as is, but if you have some extra rice or veg, this would benefit from that. I bought this primarily for variety in my apocalypse food pantry, or just for use as a quick lazy meal. I buy when on sale and so stuff like this helps make for a cheap meal.

Quality is slipping—becoming more broth than "Chunky
I’m writing this because I’ve always enjoyed this specific flavor, but the recent trend in quality control is very concerning. I want to keep buying this, but the last few batches have shown a significant decrease in the actual meat and vegetable content. The "Dinty Moore" Warning: I call this the "Dinty Moore Effect." I once purchased a 12-pack from that brand where the cans were literally just water and broth—zero ingredients were actually put in the cans. I ended up $100 out of pocket with no way to get a refund. I am starting to see the exact same pattern here with Campbell’s. Observations from recent batches: Declining Ratios: Each batch seems to have less "food" than the one before. Mostly Liquid: My most recent can was almost entirely broth. When I poured it into the pot, there wasn't even a handful of meat or vegetables in there. Consistency Issues: It’s getting to the point where you don't know if you're getting a meal or just a can of flavored water. The Bottom Line: The flavor is still good, and I’m not saying don't buy it, but Campbell's needs to get their quality control together. If the "Chunky" brand name is going to mean anything, there needs to be actual food in the tin. I hope they address this before it becomes a situation where we're just paying for cans of liquid.
