Difficult Problems
I am coming from an electrical engineering background albeit, my experience is mainly in control systems and signal processing. I am self-studying this book and I am struggling. I am able to follow the mathematical arguments the author makes during the text, but I often feel defeated with many of the problems - especially the additional ones at the end of the chapter. If I were to pin point my struggle it is with the symmetry arguments and physical assumptions Griffith’s makes/expects you to make. I don’t think he explains these in detail during the text, and my engineering background has not prepared me well to make these. Perhaps I tried jumping to deep into the subject without having the appropriate prerequisites. I feel mislead by my online research as many people said that vector calculus - which I studied beforehand - is really the only prerequisite. Aside from my struggle, the book is written in a friendly tone, it has nice diagrams, and plenty of problems.

Practice problems are quite difficult 🥹

A must have classic EM book for any physicist. Good selection of problems. Also good as a reference. Good print and paper quality. Good hard binding quality

Love this book, as it is incredibly helpful for my studies in electromagnetic physics. I was planning to just share a library copy with a friend, and/or use a pdf from the web, but nothing beats having your own book, and to then flip through the pages on your own. Another factor was the price; there were so many of these USED textbooks that were over $150NZD, some even going for about $300NZD excluding shipping, so when this Amazon listing appeared, I was over the moon with getting what I need for this semester, and for the electromagnetism course next year. One of the few times that I will buy a textbook, as I’ll use it at least twice, AND it wasn’t as expensive as it typically is :)
