Res Arcana Duo is not only a great introduction to a wonderful engine building game, but works as an expansion should you make the right choice and purchase the original Res Arcana. I love the artwork and the theme. The resource tokens are wooden and feel satisfying to use. The box size is perfect for travel. I've taken it on several trips now. In the game you play for multiple rounds until someone reaches 10 victory points (or 7 for the first game) or more by the round's end. Each round is made up of turns where each player goes back and forth taking one action at a time. The place where this game shines is that each game is a little different from the next. You each only have 8 artifact cards in your deck and each player is working with different artifacts. You have to think on your feet to make your artifacts and other cards work together to form an engine that builds enough victory points to win the game before your opponent. It's so satisfying when things start to click. This version of the game has no 'take that', so it's casual and, though competitive, doesn't feel mean.

Play by itself with two players for a light weight game. Add to the original game to increase complexity. If you already play the main game two players and like the weight just add it in. Or use this as a great travel game.

I’ve played the full game before Duo a lot and appreciate that this can be played stand alone or added to that version. More content for a good game? Take my money.

Great to have a duo version of the game, but the original version of the game can basically be two players as well, so we treated this like an expansion for the original game. Note before you do that that many of the cards on this are extremely overpowered compared to the cards in the original game, and you're adding a lot of randomness to who might get those cards during setup, because they can be game winners.
