Grates quickly, and cleans easily
Why did you pick this product vs others?: Our waiter at Il Mercato used this, and we were impressed by how well it worked. He wrote the name for us, and we checked on Amazon when we returned home. It's also easy to clean. The plastic is sturdy, it's easy to operate, and it grates quickly. We highly recommend.

Great shredder
Easy to use. Does leave a chunk of unshredded cheese due to internal ledge. Fresh parmesan is just the best.

Good kitchen gadget
Not a bad item for the money. Inexpensive and works pretty good.

A more versatile and easier to clean choice
Had purchased the Zyliss rotary grater that was top-rated by America's Test Kitchen. Great for hard cheeses, but awful for soft. Bought this one in hopes that the larger holes would let it succeed where the Zyliss failed. It did! The grating drums are open on both ends, making clean-up MUCH easier. The large-hole drum is great for soft cheeses, the small-hole drum rips through hard cheeses. The IKEA uses a locking end cap to keep the drum in place; it's easier to disassemble for cleaning than the Zyliss. The handle and crank are both longer on this than on the Zyliss. That might be a drawback for those with smaller hands. Hard to argue with the reputation or build quality of the Zyliss, but for my money, this gadget from IKEA is a better value.

Amazing! Big time saver.
This is not a solicited opinion. The cheese grater worked so well that I had to share. I needed 6 cups of shredded cheese for a mac and cheese recipe. The first time I made it I only had a flat cheese shredder. It probably took an hour to shred all of that cheese. So I looked on line and found this hand held cheese grater. I love it! It took about 15 minutes to grade the 6 cups of cheese. I really like the fact that you can insert the cylinder either from the right side or the left side. This makes it great for a left-handed person, which I am. I turned it sideway so that the cheese fell directly into my bowl. I used mozzarella cheese and cheddar cheese. Both were cold when I shredded them. And the clean up was practically nothing. I took the cylinder back out of it and rinsed everything off with water. I used my palm brush gently to scrub the remaining cheese off. Then used the dish rag to wash it. It took maybe 3 minutes.

Parmesan and cheddar excellent. First one now at daughter's house, second one on its way.
Overall much less effort, and way quicker. Easier on wrists, hands, and arms. Perfect for when larger amounts needed, not so much for smaller amounts due to time cleaning, Unless you want to show off at a special meal. We much prefer the quality of fresh grated cheese, using U.S. Cheeses, which can be reasonably priced at about $4 a pound, but still very good for daily use. We also use imported parmesan daily. Had been grating on a box grater, hard work, and dangerous to the knuckles for year. Yes, as noted in other reviews you can only put in smaller pieces, but it only takes a couple of seconds to slice off another chunk, open the grater, and start again. The larger barrel is perfect for chunks of white cheddar, as long as it comes straight from frig. The smaller barrel is good for the hard parm, but it comes out larger than I had expected. However, it comes out so very thin, so it melts just a bit on hot food, in a very good way. We put it on popcorn, and although it sort of melts on to the popcorn, and disappears, mixed with butter, nutrient yeast, and a little salt, it is something good. Cleaning is about equal to box grater, using a brush, or dishcloth. Have used the dishwasher a few times, and that was fine. Can make a Huge pile of cheese faster, and easier on arms and wrists, and safer. We store our cheese in glass containers in the frige. If got a larger one, might try keeping the grater in the frig with the cheese, to avoid cleaning it all the time. If needed a tiny amount off of block of cheddar, would still use my little flat hand grater with a handle. Made unusable mess out of whole carrots. Will still use box grater for them.

Works perfet
Works really well for parmesan cheese. Better than I expected after I read the other reviews. Easy to clean and simple. Switch it to left or right hand.

Don't do mozzarella
I imagine it works fine for harder cheese, however a recommendation said it works well for mozzarella, not really. I mean it grates it, but the elbow work makes it takes literally 5 times longer than a box grater. Well made product though especially for the price.

Bin zufrieden damit. Leicht zu reinigen.
