Do yourself a favor. Get a Doggie Dooley
This system works very well, but you have to be careful with installation. You will want to make sure it is on the highest ground around. Otherwise you may experience erosion around the perimeter. Rainwater will also flow in and fill the lower pit. Otherwise the dooley is awesome. You have to be faithful in doing your pickup daily. It's an easy way to keep your yard clean, and keep the flys away. Much healthier for pets, kids and guests.

Great product, well designed
I had an older model dog dooley in the form of a large plastic pyramid open at the bottom that you buried in a large hole in the ground. This served me well for over 20 years, but the plastic lid at the top eventually broke from usage and fatigue, though the underground structure is still working to this day. This new model is made of steel, and is closed at the bottom. It is installed by digging a deep and narrow 48"x14" hole in the ground. I made the hole too wide, and had to use small rebar bars at the top to make it fill, and then filled the too-wide mouth of the hole with gravel. I could have dug another hole, but the initial hole was hard to dig because of roots, so decided to improvise. Make sure that the hole is narrow. Once the digester is installed, it is very easy to operate. You need to add water periodically, which overflows from the inside into the deeper hole. The opening of the digester of the digester is wide enough that the matter inside can be easily turned periodically. This helps breakdown clumps in the matter, spread the enzymes, and add oxygen. Eventually, I presume that the hole in which the digester is installed may become full, and may have to be emptied or a new hole dug, but that will probably take years. Overally if you are interested in an ecological way to digest your pet waste that does not involve plastic bags and throwing poop in your trash, I highly recommend this system. It is well designed, well built and very practical. It does take a little work to install, and light periodic maintenance.

Not For Clay Soil
I wanted one of these, but decided to use an old garbage can instead. I dug a deep hole, cut the bottom off the can, only to discover that I did not have a lid for the can. I REALLY like the lid on this product, it looks durable and easy to use. I did not relish the though of lifting the lid every time I scooped. So I bought one of these to use in my hole about a month ago. Well, it turns out this is a mini septic tank. The bottom can is sealed on the bottom and has an overflow tube. It uses the type of composting that is in water. You add enzymes to break down the waste, and then what's left flows over the top of the overflow tube and into the ground. I also discovered, after reading the instructions, that this will not work in clay soil. My soil is so clay, I added a little water to make it easier to dig, and the water stayed for days! Seeing that this type of composting would not work for me, I modified mine. I cut the bottom off, used the can as a lid, (I know an expensive lid!), and used it that way. My hole, big enough for a garbage can was too big, so I cut pieces of my garbage can (plastic) and put it around the Dooley and filled in my hole around it. It works great so far. The top flange and the lid itself are plastic, so I worry about sun damage and cracking, but so far so good. Since my soil is clay, water drains very slowly out of my hole. I dropped some of the enzyme pellets in anyway to see what happens. There is still a lot of water in my hole, but so far no smell. It has been cold, so it might be worse in the summer. LOTS OF FLYS!!!! But I figure better inside the Dooley, than outside in the yard. At least the spiders will be able to feed of the Dooley that having to build webs all over the yard like they do now. So check your soil to make sure it can absorb the water from this mini septic tank before buying.

No more garbage poo!!
This is one of the most exciting products I've heard about. I have been wanting to get rid of my garbage service for a while now, compost most everything and have very little waste. Well, dog poo was a large portion of our garbage, as we have two labs. Throwing it at the back of the yard to decompose naturally was not an option. My wife told me about a septic system specifically made for dog poo that she had heard about. I was like "Seriously?! Awesome!!" So, a quick search on Amazon brought me to this item. I had no hesitation in ordering this item based on reviews and the whole concept. I'ts been up and running for about two weeks. I use two tablets per week and seems to be working just fine. Not sure if the powder is any better. At this point I would say buy it! Notes: They say to dig a four foot hole, and that's it. They don't say to fill it with anything. I can't imagine the plastic cover being able to support over forty pounds. I decided to fill the hole with drain rock until this item sits on top of the rock and is flush with the ground. How it works: You buy it, bury it, fill it with water, throw a couple tablets in to get the bacteria started. Then throw a day or two worth of poo in, but no more, you don't want to overload the system. Each day you pour a gallon of WARM water in to "flush" the system. This stirs everything up, raises the water level, and empties waste into the four foot hole you dug. Then scoop daily poo into this unit. Is this smelly? Yes and no. When it's closed for the day you don't smell it, but when you open it to make a deposit, yes it's very smelly! Overall this won't stink up the whole neighborhood. Might not be best put in a place of direct sunlight for most the day as the sun will break down the plastic very fast. I believe the fact that the bacteria doesn't work well below 40 degrees, I don't work well under 40!! Highly recommended!!

Not great for puppies or dogs that eat things other than their food
We got this and thought awesome! Our dogs have a dedicated spot in the yard and this septic system should be great. Well when you have puppies who eat things like ropes, hair, leaves, sticks, plastic, toys.. you know puppies.. this stuff doesnt break down. Now here we are almost a year later and it's so full of solid waste that isnt breaking down we have to throw it out. I tried using the tabs that came with it, made sure the thing had water, you know all the stuff you are supposed to do. When that didnt work I tried Ridex and that did the same thing the tabs did. At one point the overflow was clogged with solid debris and had to use a rod to get through it to the ground so the water would leach out. It has been a huge disappointment. I am really bummed that it didn't work as it was supposed to for puppies that is. Your older dogs, well they dont tend to eat a lot of that stuff so you may have a better time than we did. Really wish you had an Option to hook up a drip line from your irrigation system as that would help keep it wet like a regular septic.

A great product
Update 9/25/18 This has continued to work well for us, even with an added dog that we ended up adopting because someone dumped him in our yard. The only problem I've had with it is that the plastic around the top cracked in our extreme West Texas heat. I wish it was made of a more durable material. I'm right now ordering a new one because we had workmen working on our house for several months this summer and they ran over our Doggie Dooley at least 3 times. /sigh. Now it is crushed and about to fall into the hole. This has been very helpful to me. I adopted a puppy in April and I had this saved on my wish list for when I was able to get a pet. I read many of the reviews and my sons dug a 4ft. hole for me and then installed it. It has been working very well. It is always very hot here in Texas and a lot of water evaporates so I add 2 gallons of water every day instead of 1. I've found that the enzyme tablets work best for me instead of powder as some people suggested. I add one on Monday and another on Thursday and also run water on low from a hose for about 30 minutes. The smell is manageable. We only catch a whiff of it occasionally or when we open it. I really love that our yard stays clean and the grandkids can play without worrying about stepping in dog poop. The only problem I've had at all is that my sons didn't make sure it was level and the side with the pipe is very slightly higher and it's a little harder to flush. I wish I could turn it but it's too heavy now. Otherwise this was a great tool for me to keep my yard clean.

A Health Hazard Designed to Fail
Doggie Dooley 3000 Septic-Tank-Style Pet-Waste Disposal System I purchased the Doggie Dooley 3000 last August, one year ago, and followed installation and operation directions exactly. The only problem with the install is our sandy soil up here in northern Arizona so the opening at the top was a little wide. To solve that issue, I used a piece of 4’ x 4’ x 1” treated plywood with an appropriate sized hole cut. We have three small Terriers of about 10 lbs. each that the Dooley was to provide for. Never did. I have tried a lot of what some of the other users have. Same results. Nothing worked. Finally, the sun’s ultraviolet rays here at almost 5000 feet did in the cheap plastic upper shell, which had seen cracking for some months, and was now breaking apart and threatening to fall into the pit. I pulled the disgusting thing out and set it on the lip to dry for a few days before I toss it. I will backfill the hole with rock and dirt after. When you think about a private home septic system and how it works (if you don’t know, do a search) and then take a look at the Dooley, it should become obvious that at some point, just like your home, you are going to have solids left in the bottom of the can. Now in the case of your home, you have a professionally designed system with a very large capacity tank (multi-stage) that is designed to be pumped periodically. As for the Dooley, not only is nothing mentioned of this, but you are left to your own devices. At best, this is poor science and poor design. At worst, it is fraud upon the consumer as it is creating a health hazard.

Great value
We've had this system for five months now. We live in Missouri and have weather that ranges from 50° and sunny to a blizzard all in ONE MONTH (December! Ha!). We also live in a suburban area with a decent back yard (I feel this is the best environment for a good experience). My husband had used this previously but the concept was new to me. I was skeptical! So far it has been the best thing we've done. Installation: digging the hole was the most challenging thing about installation. We were already renting an auger for another project so we were in luck! Getting the hole dug to spec is a key in getting the best results (imo). You need a nice snug fit that is deep enough. Use and Care: We have one 7 month old American Bulldog. I prefer using the Doggie Dooley to the bucket system. Another key factor in a good experience is keeping up with poo pick up and adding water. We got lazy for a few weeks and we had a bit of flooding from rain; things got a tad backed up. No biggie... It just took a little waiting for the ground to soak up the water, then daily doses of water and some additives for a few days. The only time we had any "overflow" was when the ground froze for several days. Once everything thawed we added water and all was good. In the mean time we just went back to the bucket. My recommendation would be frequent water as it acts as a septic tank.... It needs to have solids flushed with water for proper break down. *Warning* when you add water the smell is very unpleasant, there's just no way around it, but I find the value of the Dooley out-weighs the negative. Again adding water more frequently keeps the smell down. This is where being in a suburban area is a good fit because we just drag the hose 50' to the back corner of the yard and add a few gallons. Aesthetics: We placed ours in a back corner of our yard so no smells would intrude on the entertainment areas. In the spring we plan to dress the area up a bit with some landscaping rocks. I think this will provide good drainage to an area that will always have high exposure to water and be a deterrent for guests to accidentally step ON the Dooley (my one and only fear not tested out yet). Visually it is a neutral color and shape and sits nearly flush with ground. Overall love this product and may buy another for the other side of the yard!

Dog poo composter
Send to be fit for purpose. Worst bit? I have to dig a1.2 metre/4 foot deep hole to sit it in. I live on very rocky ground but it's achievable, I hope 😂

Très bon article
Le trou à creuser est une sinécure. Ensuite, c'est quand même pratIque pour balancer les déjections. On mets 10 litres d'eau une fois par semaine et pas à chaque fois

Great way to dispose of dog waste
I owned one of these many years ago and just got this new one. Works great, not smelly like you would think. In fact you get worse smell picking up the dog poo than from the tank!
