Can you remove the collar on a daily basis?

Good question! I'm planning to remove the collars when the mutts swim. Info says they are water resistant, but one of my dogs swims a lot. I just opened the box to look, and they appear to fasten like a zip-tie.  I think I will put mine on just loose enough that I can sneak them off over their heads for swimming. I'm really looking forward to using these to save having to wet two big mutts with the spray repellent every day before out walk. Good luck!

Can this be used in conjunction with a topical,  like Frontline?

There should be no interaction.  Many pet shampoos, deodorizers, wipes for muddy legs or bellies, and natural mosquito repellent sprays for dogs contain essential oils and are frequently used by people as extra protection against a wider variety of pests while still applying any of the monthly flea and tick topicals.

Really this has no proof of being safer than topicals like frontline when worn by the pet 24/7 for months.  Many studies actually point to the opposite.  Products like this are better for applying only as needed and then removed or allowed to fade as a short term spray.

What few realize is dogs and cats are more sensitive to essential oils than we are and cedar is among the most likely to raise liver enzyme values in numerous studies done testing the effects of exposure of several different animals to common plant oils such as cedar, pine, tea tree, and eucalyptus.  Many animals lack necessary enzymes or biochemical processes to efficiently breakdown or render strong plant oils inert like humans can.  Repeated or constant level exposure can eventually lead to liver and kidney damage or respiratory infections from inhalation of the evaporating oils (the scent humans like so much).  This is well known with small animals or livestock kept in cages or stalls/pens on cedar shavings or with other attempts to use essential oils to repel pests from their.

Since we normally don't lock our dogs and cats on floors giving off plant oils for most of the day few realize the same danger applies when you keep our normally loose house pets in frequent contact with essential oils.  The more carnivorous the animal the worse they are at breaking down plant compounds so it can take even less to harm a cat or dog than it does everything from a guinea pig and rabbits to goats and horses.

Such products can be useful but they should always be removable or short acting biodegradable to make sure you can control exposure levels and keep it to the minimum required.  Especially for strong tree oils like cedar.  Citrus and mint family essential oils are considerably safer than tree oils tend to be.  Repellents and odor eliminators relying on things like citrus, mint, lemongrass, lavender, or cinnamon are safer than those relying on cedar or other tree oils.
