Mr. Coffee mug warmer: As I use it, I will update this review. Cord is long (3.5 feet), the actual heating surface is 3 and 3/8 inches diameter, and it's well made and inexpensive. It turns on with a red light on the unit (unlike another brand that has the on/off switch on the AC electric cable). A superb substitute for schlepping my soups in with a thermos every day (hard to clean, extra work at home, etc.) My goal: warm soup at my desk. I don't want an open flame (e.g. alcohol cook stove), or a very hot 750+ watt cooking element/hot plate. A small Crock pot is hard to eat from and wash--so, I thought this Mr. coffee might be what I want. I don't drink coffee, but could see using it for hot cocoa. The test: I can put a room-temperature full 8 ounce Campbell's Soup--chicken noodle, to be exact--contents in an enamel-coated aluminum 12 ounce cup with lid, and in 30 minutes it's fairly heated and I could eat it, but in one hour, it's nice and toasty and ready to eat. It's hot enough that I cannot touch the bottom of the cup. I was concerned about the honest reviews that said this does not get hot enuogh--but after using daily for a week, it's mighty hot. I certainly cannot touch the warmer surface--it's far too hot. My office is not near a microwave, and this is a lifesaver for me. I may try canned stews next. I adore eating at my desk. A fellow office mate actually warms water--not to boiling, but very hot--over and hour and then dumps it from the cups into camping meal bags (cook in bag types, like Mountain house) and eats well every day. Sure, if someone had a microwave it's faster, but why challenge the entire office for microwave time in the grody kitchen room when you can set this out an 11AM and be eating well by noon. Here's the exact cup I use, which fits the Mr Coffee well. Coleman 12 Ounce Enamelware Coffee Mug (Blue) Tips: The cup makes a big difference. I use an enamel Coleman aluminum cup, which holds one soup can well (not too close to the top), and conducts heat exquisitely. I have no clue is a hard and thick ceramic coffee mug would work. Also, I put a lid on the cup to hold heat, and so I don't get paperclips and junk in there while it "cooks". Lids reduce heating time by 18% (according to camping websites). I use a simple ceramic drink coaster that I had at home for my lid--any nonflammable lid would work. The lid helps. Also, the Coleman mug that I use is flat bottomed, thus using the entire heating element successfully. A curved bottom mug may not heat as well. P.S> Okay, I just did Campbell's Vegetable Beef soup in it today, thick and I added no water, and it took about 1.5 hours to get fully hot. Still worked great, but clearly the thicker the soup, the longer the heating time. Also, the heating is most intense at the bottom of the mug or cup, so (1) stirring helps, and (2) a tall style ceramic mug or cup would not be as good as a squat one. I bought a second one for home since I liked the first one so very much, and to test if the first one was a fluke and just extra hot or something. Guess what, no fluke. The first and second are equally as hot. Postcript: just for kicks, I put tap water at room temperature in the blue Coleman cup for 60 minutes on the Mr Coffee warmer, and I couldn't even stick my finger in it at all. It was hot! Not boiling, for sure, but clearly hot. I wouldn't want it that hot to drink or to eat. And, so, I added an ice tea bag and took it off the Mr Coffee and drank tea. PLenty hot! Lovely! Bon appetite!

OK, I read a number of the reviews posted here before purchasing this mug warmer, and did a little research to check what the power used (wattage) was supposed to be. The manufacturers seem to want to keep this a mystery for some reason -- all of them. There were reports that this Mr Coffee device had the same wattage rating as other similar mug warmers that had decent feedback ratings. So, I decided to try it. The power number mentioned was 17 watts, which sounds about right for a device this size. The watts of power generated is THE most important characteristics of any heat producing device and this Mr Coffee mug warmer seems to live up to the purported 17 Watt rating. They don't put any power or energy information anywhere on the packaging material and there is no information in the small instructions pamphlet either but the bottom off the device says: "120 V 60 Hz 17 W", so, 17 watts it is. Now, if this electrical device consumes around 17 watts, you can assume some of the heat energy is lost to the table and the edges of the plastic housing and if you put your hands around the device, there is some loss there and my desk beneath does get a little warm. So, clearly 17 watts is not going into the cup. But for such a simply made device, like all the others I see advertised too, it appears to generate a majority of the heat energy at the indented area where the cup will sit. And by the way, the heating are where a mug sits is 3-1/4 inches in diameters -- which will accommodate some pretty big mugs. The depressed area where your coffee mug sits gets noticeably warmer than the sides of the device. It is hot but not so hot I can't touch it. I wouldn't want to hold my fingers there for very long but it's not like its glowing red. It's touchable. So, I took it out of the packaging, plugged it in, set a cup of coffee on it, and did a little work -- like maybe twenty minutes. The coffee was a bit cold to start, not even cool, and when I picked the mug up a little later the coffee was warm, the mug was warm.. The mug warmer doesn't heat it to a hot coffee temperature but check it's name -- it isn't supposed to. It "warms" the coffee. As a couple of reviews pointed out, the manufacturers are skirting the boundary of generating enough heat to make it dangerous to be left heating on a desk. You can't have a relatively small, inexpensive plastic device have a red-hot burner on it, not when it's intended use is sitting next to my monitor amidst piles of note and maybe near a textbook or two. If you want really hot coffee, clear a space on your desk and get a true hot plate with which you can also fry bacon. Or get a small stand to hold a microwave. After all that, I was quite pleased with how effective it was in "warming" a drink. If you want it to make your coffee hot hot, you will be disappointed. If you want your coffee to stay warm, it does it's duty.

I own 3 of these (for different rooms in my house) and they work great! Simple to use (you flip the on/off switch) and it keeps my tea to the PERFECT drinkable (not too hot, not too cool) temperature for me. It doesn’t have the fancy features of some of the other options out there (no auto shut-off, no temp selection) but I recently tried another brand that DID have those features and still much prefer this one. The other one’s coolest temp kept my tea too cold and all the others made it too hot so I kept having to turn it on and off. This one I can just leave on the whole time I’m using it to keep something warm and the temp remains consistent until the drink is almost gone. Other reviews ARE correct regarding the paint scratching off the heating plate…one of my 3 warmers has a LOT of scratching after 8 years of use (the others a little) but it doesn’t affect function, just looks. **I’ve only ever had to replace one of these (just this week) and the issue was caused by a very specific scenario so it’s worth warning others: do not put FROZEN drinks on this device (or anything else wet), even when it is off.** I had set a bottle of water that had been partially frozen on top of it (with the device off) because I’d misplaced my normal coaster and didn’t want the condensation on the outside of the bottle to drip onto my nightstand. I started hearing a sizzling sound, as if the warmer was on, and noticed the red light was glowing despite it being in the “off” position. I assume some of that condensation must have dripped down through the on/off switch and caused a short. The device stopped working after that, and this could be a potential safety hazard. But should be avoidable if you just don’t put ice cold drinks or other wet things on it. I can overlook any of the other cons of this device due to how effectively this keeps my drink at the perfect temp compared to other brands, but I took off one star for this issue because it IS a potential safety issue, even if it is only likely to occur during an unintended use-case (since I could see a lot of people not thinking it would be an issue to use it as a coaster while off). Overall it has worked great and unless I find another one that actually heats to the correct temp (so far I haven’t), this is the brand I’ll keep using, regardless of the cons. Since there’s no point in having extra features if a drink warmer doesn’t actually warm my drink properly. This one does. Will update this review if that ever changes. —— **Pros** - It’s straightforward to use. Just an on-off switch. - It’s reliable. I’ve only had to replace one of these 3 I own after 8 years (due to getting water in it). - Doesn’t over-heat the surface it’s on (won’t damage wood) and concerns about mild heating (like if it’s above a desk drawer containing stuff that shouldn’t be heated) can be mitigated by placing it on a tile coaster or something. - The sides of the device don’t get too hot to touch, only the heating plate in the center. - Doesn’t require only flat-bottom mugs. - Doesn’t take up a ton of space compared to some other options while still being big enough for multiple mug sizes (all but my largest/huge mug). - It’s the only one I’ve tried that ACTUALLY keeps my tea the perfect drinkable temperature (warm without burning my tongue). I admit I weighted the pros of this feature heavier in my rating, since regardless of any extra features or other pros and cons, a mug warmer is somewhat pointless if it can’t do this. **Cons** - Paint can scratch off the heating plate but this doesn’t affect function, only looks. - It can make drinks that are almost empty a bit too hot. I turn it off once my mug is at that point. - No auto shut-off or temp control features. - The surface that it’s on does get slightly warm. Not so much that it’s damaged any of the wood surfaces I’ve had it on, but I did notice it melted some Aquaphor in the desk drawer of my nightstand (must have been directly under it) so you may want to place a tile coaster under it if using in this setting. - This device is NOT a good option for someone who wants something that can double as a coaster for an ice cold drink when off (due to the safety risk posed by condensation dripping into the switch), but if you don’t plan to use it for that, it should be fine.

I've had my Mr. Coffee warmer for a year and it's worked great. It kept my hot cup of coffee warm to the last drop. You can't start with a cold or Lukewarm drink and expect the warmer to make it hot. My only complaint is I wish the red light that indicates the warmer is on waws a little brighter. Yes, I did have the scratching on the warmer, which if you are using a ceramic mug, it will cause scratching over time. The only reason I'm replacing now is I dropped my phone on the warmer (it was turned off) and it cracked the outer casing, so I'm replacing out of an abundance of caution. But hey the warmer still works perfectly.

The coffee warmer works great and holds the warmth while using it to drink my coffee. I had a previous one for over 10 years and it finally broke around the edges about three or four weeks ago. I had bought this new one and I love the warmer but the plate looks like an old used mug warmer that I have had for years due to the finish on the plate has worn off within a week. I never spilled anything on it but when you use the warmer every time you pick up and put your coffee cup back the black finish keeps wearing off more to now it is 1/2 off the coloring. I am very disappointed that this second mug holder has been not as well made as my first one was.

I had a very nice Christmas (thanks for asking!), and I got lots of nice gifts. But the best gift of all that I received was the smallest item of them all. Mr Coffee Mug Warmer, take a bow... Truly, this mug warmer* really has changed the quality of my life significantly over the last few weeks. Now, you might read that statement and think, 'wow, your life must really suck for it to be possible for a mug warmer to make it better'. But no, my life doesn't suck. I just really, really like hot tea. You see, I work at home. And I don't have any work colleagues to shoot the s*** with - so, to keep me on my toes, I use caffeine. Lots and lots of caffeine. But, much as I like caffeine (delivered through the medium of tea and, of course, it's more sultry sister, coffee), I get very sad when it goes cold. Indeed, taking a swig of cold tea or coffee is about as pleasant an experience as, say, getting smacked in the face with a wet pair of underpants (we've all been there, right?) Anyway, so I got this mug warmer and I switched it on and, lo and behold, there are no more such unpleasant moments in my life anymore (until someone turns up with a pair of wet underpants anyway). One of the small but incredibly irritating daily occurrences that I had come to think was inescapable has now been resolved! (Yes, things can actually get better!) So now, when I am distracted by a Skype call or any other task and so have to abandon my tea for 20 or 30 minutes, I can now confidently return to it knowing that it will still be piping hot (or very warm at least) and utterly satisfying. In other words, this mug warmer product delivers the goods and then some. The tyranny of cold tea has been defeated. And the misery of having to trudge downstairs to heat it back up in the microwave is no more. (Heck, at this rate I might never need to move from my office chair again - progress, eh?) But seriously, if you want a cheap mug warmer that keeps your drink at approximately the same temperature as you prepared it at, then this warmer will do the job nicely. I leave it on all day (yes, us home workers are total rebels, didn't you know?) and it has paid for itself many, many times over by now. *One thing that I have to say is that, while brilliant, this product is NOT a 'warmer' - i.e. it does not *warm* your drink up at all. Rather, it *maintains* your drink at approximately the same temperature as you prepared it at and for a good length of time. For example, if I prepare a cup of tea (which I am about to go an do, by the way), and put it on the warmer, it'll keep it at the same temperature - with only a very slight loss of heat - for up to an hour and beyond. As a voracious tea drinker, I've never actually let a mug linger long enough to see if there is indeed a point at which it will lose all heat. So surely that's a good sign, no? Bottom line: how can you call yourself a serious fan of hot drinks and not own this product? Shame on you! SHAME! Update (2 weeks later): bonus feature detected! If you are like me in that you tend to spill drinks and in the process your mug tends to drip with coffee a lot, you are going to love this... This mini hot plate warmer will sizzle all drippage away instantly once you place your mug down on it, meaning that you can also avoid any future coffee stains on your table. Then all you need do is wipe the warmer clean once it is turned off / cooled down (unless of course you're like me and you don't care). Score!

I got this Mr. Coffee Mug Warmer even though I wasn't originally a big hot beverage drinker. But ever since I started following (or trying to follow!) a low-carb/keto/LCHF diet, I've been having more hot drinks, particularly "Bulletproof Butter Coffee". However, when I drink hot beverages, especially coffee & tea, I drink it VERY SLOWLY, because if/when I drink it fast, it seems to bring on (or worsen!) my issues with Acid Reflux/GERD/heartburn. So it often takes me several hours or sometimes even the entire day (or longer!) just to finish a one regular-sized (like maybe 10-12 oz or so) mug. But, the problem is that because I take my time drinking my coffee or tea, I often end up getting engrossed in some activity (reading, watching something on TV, using the computer, etc.) and my drink inevitably either becomes cold before I've finished having it OR I wind up having to reheat it MULTIPLE times in the microwave, before I'm done. Because I'm trying to reduce the use of the microwave (in hopes of eventually getting rid of it ENTIRELY because of the health risks of microwaves) and I use a BLACK+DECKER Brew 'n Go Personal Coffeemaker for coffee, and a kettle for tea & other hot beverages I got this Mr. Coffee Mug Warmer to keep my drink hot while I take my time drinking it. Before buying this Mr. Coffee Mug Warmer , I looked at/into several different models of mug warmers including those that were AC electric powered (meaning the 2 pronged electrical plug that goes into the wall) AND those that are USB powered. Since this mug warmer seemed to have the highest ratings (boththe most number of ratings AND the highest number of stars) I got this one. Unfortunately, I have to say that I'm sorely disappointed. Almost as soon as I got this mug warmer, I opened it, read the instructions and plugged it in and turned it on. Its a good thing that I was sitting right by it when I started using it, because within minutes, a really smoky odor started developing. At first I couldn't figure out what it was, because the mug was on the warmer, and I didn't SEE the smoke at first, I just SMELLED it. So I went to the kitchen, thinking I might have left the kettle or coffeemaker or stove or oven on, and it had started smoking. But nope. They were all off and cooling (in the case of the coffeemaker) or cold (in the case of the kettle, stove & oven). So I was trying to figure out what that smoky smell was and where it was coming from -- and in the process of sniffing around, I came to the mug warmer, and because the odor was strongest there, and there was nothing else nearby that could be the source, I realized that this mug warmer was smoking! So of course I immediately unplugged it and called Amazon. They were very nice about it, and right away gave me a refund and said I didn't have to worry about sending it back. Now I don't know if I just got a defective one, but frankly I've been too scared to try getting another one out of fear that it might be fire hazard. I'm still looking to get a mug warmer so that I don't have to keep reheating my drinks in the microwave or diluting it by adding kettle-heated hot water to my drink when it gets cold. But in the meantime, that'll have to do, until I either find a better mug warmer OR get up my courage to try again with this Mr. Coffee Mug Warmer . Very disappointing!! ★ 1 STAR!!!!

Today I was thinking maybe it was time for a new coffee mug warmer. My Mr. Coffee has cracks in it which expand when it's on, and settle when it's off. I came back here and thanks to Amazon's record keeping, I realize I've had this warmer for just over 7 years. I use it almost daily - whenever I am at my desk. As other's have said, it's not going to heat your coffee up for you, but it will keep it hot all day! The only thing I dislike is that it does not have an auto shut off, so I have to remember to turn it off. It's on my office closing list so I don't forget. Now I'm tempted to keep using it just to see how long it can really last!

Si buscas un calentador para taza, por mucho esta es la mejor opción, sobre todo si amas tomar café, té o cualquier bebida caliente en general. Tengo casi año y medio, y puedo confirmar que sigue funcionando a la perfección, mantiene caliente mi bebida usando cualquier taza (de cerámica obvio) con un tamaño promedio. Incluso ya se me ha caído 2 o 3 veces del escritorio (claramente no lo recomiendo jajaja) y ni así dejó de funcionar bien. El cable considero es lo suficientemente largo, mide más de metro y medio. El único detalle es que el recubrimiento en la base se pierde con relativa facilidad conforme a su uso pero no afecta en nada, por el precio es aceptable. EXCELENTE CALENTADOR :D

Best coffee warmer and works very well. Have been using it for over a year now and still works perfect. The Plate does get very hot so you wouldn't want to touch it. It sits on my desk at the office and keeps ceramic cup very warm. I find if you place something to cover your mug the liquid gets much hotter. Keep in mind only works with ceramic mugs. Although it does not have any auto shut off function, I simply place it on a timer that turns on automatically and shuts off at a specified time. This ensure's it does go off at the end of my shift. Wouldn't want to leave it on accidentally over a weekend or so. There is a little light indicator but the mug is usually covering it. Highly recommened to keep tea's, coffees, warm beverages hot-warm.
