Arrived on time and played fine. One of Danny's best movies!

This is a fantastic film—clever, funny, romantic, and philosophical. A vastly underrated film of the 80’s. 31% on Rotten Tomatoes? Meh, the critics are sometimes wrong.

This movie (aside from the rather uninteresting romantic plot) had an interesting lesson on how people could feel about changes like corporate takeovers. The speeches given by Gregory Peck, representing the gradual growth and rise of a company over time, vs that of Danny DeVito, representing big money interest in exploiting its existing value, made the movie worth watching by themselves.On the one hand, companies are collections of people, and they give them worth through their efforts. Preserving them for the sake of those people is a positive thing. On the other hand, change occurs owing to the efforts of people, needs of people, and new developments. Those changes can make built-up momentum from long-time contributions worthless.An real answer to all this was 'sort of' in the movie where compromises were made, but reality is of course more complicated. This movie, I felt, did a good job of showing both sides.

Love this movie! Incredibly romantic! It's not realistic: their bold style flirting conversation are totally inappropriate and can get Larry some sexual harassment lawsuit. Romantic is dead! The fact Larry fall in love with the woman that will push back that reveals a lot about him as a boss and man. Although he is short and not so good looking, he is funny and brave that make up that disadvantage.This movie was recommended by one of the M&A book I read, I re-watched this movie again. It helps me understand LBO process. Despite of being hated, Larry delivered a great speech in annual share holders' meeting. New England Wire and Cable wants to keep jobs, while they could have understand the changes happened in the outside world and changes their business to manufacture air bags in the first place, so instead of paying Larry $30 a share to buy back the department, they should make the changes themselves when they keep losing money.

Danny Devito is 4 Foot something, pudgy, balding, and plays a leading man across a woman that stands a foot above him, without ever making it feel unbelievable. He also stands toe to toe with Gregory Peck, in his final role. This film is a fun, if not a bit dated, look at the Corporate Takeover world of the 1980's. Danny Devito brings his character to life from the very first moment of the film, and ends it with two of the best arguments on the benefits and negatives of the corporate takeover world.This is an ode to capitalism and a condemnation of it, it's a romance, a comedy, and a family drama, all packed into 90 minutes of entertaining back and forth repartee.

If you have a hard time understanding certain facets of modern American economics (at least, pre-Great Recession), then this is a great film that will introduce you to both sides of the debate in the early 90s as the fundamentals of our economy began shifting. You have an old business that is relying on the promise that the government will eventually start spending on infrastructure, a differently minded businessman who sees that the aforementioned company is worth more dead than alive, and in a twist of fate, the government manages to create jobs without spending a single penny of tax payer money (through regulation, in fact).The movie isn't boring at all, though. The economic and romantic plots of the movie are intertwined and very entertaining. The speeches at the end of the movie before the shareholders vote are GREAT and you should at least catch those on YouTube if you don't watch the movie, as they both provide valid points behind the two opposed economic ideologies.
